Can someone please explain to me how the oil filter industry has figured out how to make a hand tightened oil filter magically turn into a fucking external piece of the space shuttle!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Somehow in the coarse of 5000 miles it has super epoxied it's self on to the engine as if it was taking a ride into space and needed to hold up against the 2,800,000 lbs of thrust. It does this EVERY TIME!!!!! What gives? What is your super secret way to get off a oil filter? The damn $6 oil filter caps from Autozone are a freaking joke. |

Buy an oil wrench or better yet oil plyers, makes getting filters off easier, right next to the end caps at Autozone. Make sure that you lube the rubber gasket, sometimes I even pull it out of the gasket and lube both sides with oil. The end caps are only good if you have a tight fit and cannot use one of the other solutions.

Unfortunately it's in a place that I can only get to the bottom of it. get one of the strap type filter "wrenches" that uses a ratchet to tighten the strap. Use a long extenstion on the ratchet and get it from below. I got it. I'll post pics of the aftermath in a bit. I ended up having to take a piece of plastic....sort of a skid guard (but not really) just so I could hammer a screw driver in the side.
After hitting the ole thumb twice and some cussing it finally started to unscrew. Now on to the brakes.....

You didnt cuss at it enough to start with ![]() There are good cap wrenches and cheap ones that dont fit any particulair filter well. Find the one that is a tight fit for your filter and keep it well protected. I hate that screw driver through the filter trick, makes a giant ass mess. Only had to do that once on my brothers 302. Thank God I dould reach the filter. I think he torqued it down with a lenth of fence post

| Reminds me of when I did the first oil change on my old Ford Ranger. Damn filter seemed to be welded on at the factory. Had a Fram oil wrench that did not quite match up with the Ford oil filter. Boogered up the filter enough that I had to take it off with the screw driver method. Only problem, didn't have much clearance. Was getting about an eight turn each time. Yep, that was a long day. I now make sure I have the proper oil wrench before I do the change. |

That was one stubborn ass filter. Snap On oil filter strap wrenches FTMFW! I dont own a ton of Snap on tool, but, my ratchets and strap wrenches are the very best of the best. YMMV

I have to tell you I thought heavily about it there for a few seconds, a couple of times. hahahaha And to address the other statement....yep, it was a good 3 hours, and by no means my virgin time. I've been changing oil off and on for the past 18 years. After I use up this last purchase of oil I think I will be off again. I will admit that about 1/3 that3 hours were spent laying under the vehicle contemplating life and why shit like this happens to me while I regained feeling in my shoulder. It was a long night. |

EVERY time I've done the first oil change on a "new to me" car I've had to use a screwdriver. Just make sure to stab directly in the center of the filter. Any oil changes after that first one, I can loosen it by hand. I also change the oil while it's still warm/hot so it drains faster. If your filter is in a hard to reach spot you could always relocate it. |

They have a plate with fittings that screws on the filter mount inplace of the filter, ther there is a new filter head that you locate where ever you want, the oil run/returned through hydralic type hoses, They can be had from Summit racing, Jegs, etc. J- |
