I'm going to get a 1/2" socket set (SAE) and was planning on Craftsman, but this weekend at Fleet Farm I checked out the Allen Tools ratchets and individual sockets and they seemed pretty good. Made in the USA, too. You can see a picture of an Allen ratchet here.

Any opinions on how they compare to Craftsman? Or other brands, such as SK?

I've looked at them too, they seem like good tools.

I still like Craftsman for their no hassle warranty and stores everywhere.

This.

Husky and cobalt work well too and are about the same cost.

I like the Craftsman Brand for household work. They are good quality and I support Sears.

Craftsman because if I break a tool they made I can get it replaced for free

Dude, I just got a set of Craftsman's new thin profile ratchets (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2).  Way better than their previous regular sets.  Now, I've never used their Professional edition ratchets, but these new ones they have are sweet.  Way more clicks per turn (great in tight spots), more comfortable, just all around awesome.

Craftsman says it is their best ratchet ever.

I've never used Allen Tools' ratchets, so I can't tell you how they compare.  One of my friends has some nice Snap On ratchets.  Them are nice.

Yea, I had one of their torque wrenches break something inside too.  I think they can be fixed, but for $59 (Craftsman Club price) I just bought another one.

their torque wrenches are the suxor!

Alway buy a couple of 3/8"  & 1/2" drive ratches. I have long and short 3/8" along with my standards

If you're working on a project and you need to switch sockets it a time waster. or if you're working with a bolt and nut having two tools working saves time.

Europeans buy 1/2" and 1/4" first   we Americans will buy the 3/8"s first.

Never used Allen, but I have used Craftsman and Snap-On. I prefer Snap-On, but Craftsman is a very close second. I also have a set of Crescent tools, one of those thing you get from Costco and keep in the trunk. They have been very good to me as well.
