I am thinking of getting a 2008 STi, and would like to hear any experience on quality and dependability, or any other input (good or bad) you think I should know. Thanks for the words. Blake |

I've only seen the 2008 WRX, not the STI yet, but I've got a 2003 WRX with over 100k on it and it has been very reliable. The older ones (2002~2007) are pretty easy to work on and you can get good power with a couple of inexpensive mods. I figure I've spent about $700 on parts I'm putting out around 275 hp at the crank. This is on the 2.0L, not the STI 2.5L; the 2.5L is good to around 500 hp, and then you start having issues with the bearings. As far as interior room, the 2008 is going to be bigger than previous versions, but the comment about price and interior materials quality is dead accurate; 2008 is nicer than previous years, but still kinda boring. Definitely not a car for big people. NASIOC is the place to go for information. |

Had an '03 WRX, transmission was rebuilt by the dealer 3 times within the first 20k miles. I push my cars hard, the WRX transmission is not designed for any heavy use (two halves of the transmission bolt together, under load, they flex and move apart, and the gears inside move as well). The 6 speed's in the STI's are a completely different design Other than that, it was an awesome little fun car. |
