What do owners or those who tried one out think of the Harley VRSC?  I've been without a bike for 4 years and am getting the urge again.

Looked at a lot of stuff, Triumphs, Indian chopper, other HArley models.  The VRSC seems to ahve nice lines and sporty, though still somewhat of a cruiser.  ANy experiences?

i heard indian was going to start production of the chief again in 07.  i'd hold out for that.  i've never ridden a harley, but my grandpa has an indian, and it's the most comfortable motorcycle i've ever ridden on.

I have a couple of friends that have/had VRods, took them for rides.  Ran well and lots of usable power.  You can find gently used ones for reasonable prices.

They really are a great bike. I would suggest the night rod, as the pegs location has both forward (great for cruising) and std, (great for draging, canyon carving) this is a great all around bike.

I bought a 2003 for a great buy and flip it and made a quick 2k. Im looking at getting the night rod in satin black

just like this

YEah, V-Rod, I saw one just like that yesterday.  I believe they call it "Black Denim", has a "stealth" look about it.  You're right about the pegs.  One issue with the "Night Rod" vs. a "Street Rod" is that , pre-2007 model years have only a 3.7 gal. tank and the 2007 year has 5 gal in all the VRSCs.

What drew me into the dealership was they had a Cobalt Blue night rod in the lot, used (from their rental fleet) at a not too bad price.  Then the no-good, troublemaking  slaesman took me inside where he showed me the black denim and a cherry one, both new.  Now, the brain is starting to smoke.  They are knocking $2,000. off the leftover 2006 models.  Probably can squeezze that a bit more.  At another place I saw an orange VRSCR, which has the 5 gal tank and stands a couple of inches taller (Not a problem as I'm 6'2").

Thanks to 427 Cobra about the Indian Chief.  Those are nice but I don't know what engine they will put in.  If it's an S&S, fine, but if it is one of their "proprietary" design, I'd have to see if the new company stays alive.  Even though the previous reincarnation of Indian went down, they used off the shelf commercial components, so I can still get parts for their models.  A chief is also heavy; I like the Spirit better as it sheds about 200 or so lbs.

Never ridden one, but they are supposed to be good bikes. Once the recalls were given out for "ahem"... poor performance numbers and Harley made right on them they were almost fast enough to give 20 year old V-max a run for it's money.

I think they are cool, but the other HD guys will rag on you for riding a "WaterBoy"....

I seriously doubt it...

Two of the people I ride with own VRods, and both owners are planning on trading for more comfortable rides.  I've had the opportunity to do substantial miles on an '03 Anniversary VRod and I believe too much was sacrificed at the alter of style, the ergonomics are truly awful.  The Rod is quick, but it's no VMax killer.  I've owned an '86 Max and I just traded an '06 Harley for an '06 VMax.  The Yamaha VMax may be over 20 years old and a bit dated but still tops the VRod handily.

Hardley doesn't build motorcycles, they build rolling fashion accessories.  HD is more concerned with marketing their logo on t-shirts and beef jerky to those who believe image and noise equals performance, not actually building a motorcycle that performs.  If HD invested as much effort in their engineering department as they do in their marketing department they wouldn't have needed Porsche to design the Rod's Revolution engine in the first place.

And to the HD faithful, save your flames... I've owned 4 new off the floor HD's, I've paid dearly for my opinion of the 'MoCo'...

V_ROD, please don't be mad at me.  I just bought one exactly like the photo you posted - black denim, etc.

Rides great.  I had to get used to the peg positions as I had a Springer before, which had the floorboards and a more centered control setup.  Took a short ride and halfway back I was working fine with them - actually, after some more riding today, I find I'm liking the positions.  But, the highway pegs are there if I need them.  I like this seat position better than the VRSCR - Street Rod.  I'm tall, but that Street rod is just a bit high, even for me - just feels odd, and no highway pegs if I need them.  Really pleased with the bike.

What's really something with this compared to a springer is the handling.  One can toss this into a corner and lean much further than one would dare with the "traditional" style, and the bike feels like it's on a rail.

I'm not mad, heck I'm happy for you I really think you have made a great choice in selecting the Street Rod. Happy riding and be safe out there.
