Got a '99 Ford Taurus w/ 133k on it, the tranny has started to surge foreward while I'm at a stop like as if I was giving it gas. I've heard there were issues w/ the trannys in these particular years. Anybody have any idea what's going on & what the fix is ? Any input welcomed, thanks.

Not trying to be a smartass but are you sure it is the tranny surging? It sounds like you might have an idle quality problem. I don't think that the Taurus's had tranny problems so much as they all came with autos and they are no at an age where most of them are getting a crap load of miles on them, and failing. 133K is not high mileage for an auto tranny, but it isn't low mileage to the point of failure being unheard of either.

Does the tranny slip? it is usually most noticeable in reverse at first.

sounds like a throttle problem, not a tranny problem.  those taurus's had slipping problems after about 100K miles.

Ford used 2 versions of the AXOD-E trans in Taursus .
The standard AX4S was supposed to fix internal lubrication problems
that plagued the early AXOD's . The heavier duty unit was called the AX4N
that originally came in the SHO . It added a few other improvements
over the S version .

What does this have to due with your problem ?

Not much , because the most common failure is the 1-2 shits or slipping
caused by the weak ass Intermediate clutch .

Surging at a stop sounds more like an engine issue to me . While it's not
theoretically impossible for surge to be caused by an internal trans problem
It's highly unlikely . The best way to confirm if its an engine or trans problem
would be to shift the trans into neutral while it's surging and listening to the engine
or watch the tach if equipped to detect an increase in engine RPM as being the cause .

Thanks for the replies, I'll check it out as described. The reason I was thinking tranny was it would want to move fwd @ a stop but w/ little to no tach activity.
