Just turned 16 a couple weeks ago and got my first car, a 2002 ford explorer. I am awaiting the owners manual which supposedly has the factory code in it, but it says its also imprinted on the computer module buried underneath all that plastic and crap. I really don't want to go digging in there, or take it to Ford to get it checked since it will cost me money. Any adivce? Should I just wait for that manual or what?

the manual wont tell you jack. you will need to find the module or have someone with an OBDII scan tool capable of data stream find your unlock code.

Mine was on a sticker in the jack storage area

This is a comparment accessible by opening the rear door, and is immediately on your left. Two half-turn fastners, and its open.

If that doesnt work just go to a dealership and ask a salesperson to change your code... they might lol is 2002 the NEWER style or the same as the 95+s?

2002 is the new style. The code wasn't in the jack storage area, but i talked to the guy form the dealership who sold me it, and he said he'll use the VIN to get it

You don't have to remove the module to get the number. Open the panel enough to get an inspection mirror and small light. There will be a few numbers on it, you want the bold type, larger number.

the code CAN be changed.. my Dad bought his 2004 F250 new and had the dealership change it so it was the same as our 98 explorer.. so you can get it changed to anything you want
