| I had no idea where to put this but i think this is a good place. I have an old tiller and it starts and runs fine for about 15 minutes then it begins idle up and down and then die. It will start but will not stay running unless i let it sit for awhile. Any thoughts? |
There is no filter, and it does not look there ever was,i did clean the carb though. It has a metal cover over the carb and there is no room for a filter there. This thing look to be from the 70s,the only thing on the motor is Craftsman, most likly a Briggs. |
There should be a air box that the cover fits over. In that air box is where the foam filter would go, pre soak the foam filter in some clean motor oil, sqeeeze out the excess and install. |
Thanks for the help guys, i did manage to get the garden done, took a lot longer than it should have. I want to get this thing fixed so next year i can make bigger garden. |
This is the most likely scenario for continual "quitting" after getting warmed up a little. Electrical problems - my guess would be that you need a new condenser. Oh - it appears that an air filter originally went on top of the carburetor where the threaded stud is sticking out the top. |
| Looks like it's missing the air filter box entirely. Believe me it should have one for sure. In the pic with the kid it is also missing the depth spike. You may have left it off for the photo. It will till alot better with it .You should look for something to put on the carb. With no airfilter it wont last long. |
| Couldn't see the pic at work, what you have is a carb with a fuel pump. (Tillitson maybe)She'll run on the primer and then quit, it isn't pumping. get a rebuild kit for it and replace the diaphram. If it were newer I would only suggest taking it apart for a good cleaning. That old it'll need some carb parts replaced. |
Never had it,this was my grandpas tiller and he never had it either. I would just throw it out but since he passed on last winter i cant part with it. |
