I need to lengthen the wires on my oxygen sensor. Can I just splice in some wire to get the length I need? Seems like heard this was a nono.

This is for a 92 Ford F150.

These are cheap to buy. Get one new with correct length wiring.

if it's a one wire o2 sensor, then you can add wire, as long as it's good quality

if it's a 4 wire sesnor, then you run the risk of F-ing up the reading more.

Usually frowned upon.  The O2 sensor works by resistance.  Adding more wire changes the resistance, thereby screwing up what the computer see the reading as.

Extending an oxygen sensors wires will do nothing to change the readings. I have done it many times with no problems. Just make sure to do one wire at a time as most 4 wire O2 sensors have 2 white wires which ARE NOT the same. Extending 02 sensor wires is required in the installation of many aftermarket exhaust components.

I like your answer the best so thanks for the info

No problem. Like I said I have done it and know tons of other guys who have as well. A few extra feet of wire wont affect the 02 sensor readings enough to make any difference more or less just a few inches.

Well I added about 14 inches of wire. It was a 4 wire harness. Runs great although it could probablly use a new sensor with this one being so old. I just didnt want to take a chance screwing up a new one.
