Tower is actually outside of town, closest I could get and safely park.  Access road is gated.

If its up to specs, next target is your bike and a National Park/Forest sign.

It's only the first day of a 3 day weekend. Plus riding to a bus station generally involves riding to one of the seedier parts of town

True enough, but when I take a weekend ride I prefer to head to the middle of nowhere vs the inner city.

That's fair. I sometimes forget that not everyplace has bus stations like small town Vermont.

It's about time for a new target anyway. So, since everybody has to eat, let's try this. Target is a picture of your bike at any of the eatin' places listed on this site: http://ridetoeat.com/

Bonus points for a review.

The food at these places is uniformly good to excellent, and the reviews were all done by real riders. I even did a couple. And there are usually good riding roads in the area, as well. If you have issues getting the site to load, try the .kmz file here: http://ridetoeat.com/rte.kmz

It's got all the places listed on the website. Useable in Google Earth and other mapping programs.

The wife and I just rode back home from Glenville, NC to Ft. Eustis, VA the last two days. As the bike is our only form of transportation until it gets crated up for HHG shipment, we will be on the bike for the next week and a half.

For anybody who's interested...

The Ride to Eat website has apparently gone unmaintained/unloved for about 3 years. Too bad, really. It does have a bunch of good info. I used it a lot when I was traveling more & doing a bunch of long distance riding. I still keep the master list handy on my phone.

The website won't open on my iPhone or my kid's Android phone, either, but it opens just fine on my laptop. The complete list list of stops is in the .kmz file here: http://ridetoeat.com/rte.kmz

Google Earth on iPhone opens it just fine. Copy/paste the file URL into Safari, and you get this:

Open it in Google Earth, and you get this:

Zoom-and-tap gives you this:

Again, sorry about the tech issues.

I know we've moved on, but I couldn't resist a picture of the Houston Greyhound terminal.  A wretched hive of scum and villainry.

I was accosted three times in the time it took to circle the McDonald's, park, and snap a shot.  One tweaker, one whore/addict, and one armed security guard.  Jeezus H.

Because I have no idea where either a disused bus stop or a nice part of town are I live about an hour from the nearest city with a bus depot.

I'm a risk taker*.  What could go wrong at a Greyhound depot across the street from the Salvation Army and near the major homeless encampments?  The tweaker may have not even realized what was going on.  The whore/addict responded favorably to "Get the fuck away from me" by walking off muttering profanities.

The armed guard made me more nervous than anyone, seeing as he was pretty keyed up and had his hand on the butt of his pistol.  I rode past him making a loop around the McDonald's and he approached me as I was snapping pictures.  Apparently some bearded white dude with a motorcycle is a bigger threat than the wandering hordes of zombies about.  He told me he was calling the cops.  I told him to go fuck himself.  I wasn't in the mood.

*Glock 20 with 15+1 Hornady 175gr Critical Duty and two spare mags.

Ok, next up:

Your motorcycle with a small town city limits/population sign.  Preferred population <1000.

I've been chomping at the bits to get in again. My 650r leaks oil like a Harley and sounds like its going to die. It's been making that sound for the last 7 months or so, so I keep it within the city limits because I refuse to dump another penny into this POS . 10 years and 70k miles and it's done for. I ain't sellin it for the time being, maybe I'll fix it and turn it into a track bike.

Picking up a new bike on the 5th, just got in some shiny new digs
