For tight  clearance, as your  owners manual probably specifies  " Class S "   use the cables.

I've always just used something like these:

Amazon - Security Chain Company

These are your basic, drive up to the ski resort a couple weekends a year or around town when it snows, tire cables.  They're not too hard to put on, not too expensive (I see you've got a Mercedes C350 though ), and will work just fine in nearly any kind of snow/ice conditions you might encounter.  No matter what though, if you're not used to driving in those conditions, you have to slow down.  Way down like you feel frustrated at how slow you have to drive.  The guy that blows by you?  He's ending up in the ditch.

I bought cable chains for 225/50/17 for my Accord. I have to get to work and wife has AWD. So cable chains seem like something to bridge the gap.

A beater car

I've always liked the Z style with bungies in the middle holding them taunt like these: https://www.amazon.com/Security-Chain-SZ335-Passenger-Traction/dp/B000BR8UAE or for lower profile tires: https://www.amazon.com/Security-Chain-Company-SZ143-Passenger/dp/B000HZFDPU

That said I would not want to put chains on a Merc, too much chance for damage. Would rather drive a beater where chains may be necessary...
