I just got a 2013 F-150 w/ 5.0 flex last month. I see that E-85 is $0.20 cheaper in town than the normal 10% or less gas, and curious as to the effects. Does it maintain the same fuel economy or become doggish and mileage go to shit?

It will run great but get worse gas mileage. Over all it ended up costing me more money when I tried it.

E85 is a joke.  You should be able to find on-line what your mileage will drop to with E85 and then do the math to see if it's worth it for you.  I doubt it.

Stoich for E85 is like 9.5-10.5 to 1. A really rich mixture for gasoline is an extremely lean mixture for E85. That is where your mileage goes.

It's funny how the ecoboost 3.5 isn't E85 ready.
That setup could actually make a ton more power (still with the drop in mileage though) with E85.

The 5.0, not so much.

I used E85 2x enough to run a full tank of pretty much all E85

on E10 the E250 (2010 with the 4.6 V8) van i drove got 13mpg on the about 1/2 E10 1/2 E85 I got 11 mpg on the full E85 tank it dropped to 9 mpg

So you do the math

The best bang for your buck is pure gas

look here for a station near you

I put some…once…in my 2013 Sierra. Though it wasn't a full mix (gas where I lived was 40¢ less than where I was so save a few bucks to top off with E85) but just enough to top off (3/4 of a tank was all I needed for the return trip on E10). Finding real gas is getting harder to do, especially if you drive a lot.

As mentioned, mileage will drop. Not real benefit to running it in a non-turbocharged car. My wrx and ecoboost love it. Higher octane rating and lowers intake temps which is great for boost.

It's been a while since I figured it out, but the break even point for my tundra was E 85 needed to be close to 50 cents cheaper.

On my truck it's about a 20% hit on mpg and in my AO it's about 30% cheaper than gas so... Right now it works out for me. Your mileage may vary.

My 2014 f150 5.0 lost roughly 3 MPG going from regular 87 octane to e85.  Not worth it for $0.20 /gal but the 5.0 does run better with e85.  I stick with 87 octane and e85 to clean out the fuel system every once in awhile.

Its only 20 cents cheaper a gallon here,  so the 20% + drop in economy isnt worth it.

E-85 makes a great race fuel though...

Might be a good option if you're trying to pull a close to pull a heavy load with a half ton though.
