Have a 2008 Terrain with the V6. Just had to rescue my son. He stopped at a garage to get gas and now the truck won't start.

When I turned the key the check engine light came on, then all the idiot lights flashed and both the tach and speedo needles made a full sweep from left to right and back. Plus "service stabiltrac" message came up on the dash.

Searching the terrain forums but not finding anyone that had the same issue in that their vehicle won't start.

Not a tech but....If it is turning over, I would check the fuel pump pressure. If it is the case, make sure the filter is changed at the same time. Good luck.

nope..it won't do anything when I turn the key. starter solenoid clicks and that's it. It started for him with no problem at work, no previous issues with the battery either.

Obviously check the connections to the battery and from to the alternator. Have you tried to jump it?

no didn't try that due to the warning lights all flashing the tach and speedometer having a mind of their own and the stabiltrac service message. I'm going to go pout with my obd reader and pull the codes. might try and boost it while I'm there.

Did he keep trying to start it tell the battery died.......some people drive tell cars run out of gas,  that's really bad because the fuel pump uses the fuel to cool.  sometimes that poops a fuse.    try a jump    if it turns over,,,,,,,,check if the fuel pumps working

The service stabilitrack is a clue, very possibly something on the class 2 line is pulling the class 2 down not allowing communication between module. You'll need an GDS scantool to check it out.

A faulty or dead battery will cause all sorts of chaos during the self check on many vehicles and even though the dash is lit up and lights work the electrical will be a mess.
Although typically there are symptomatic clues leading up to a dead battery.

Well I went out and check the codes..none there. So I figured WTH..I'll try and boost it and it took right off. I drove it home, picked up the boss, went and got my truck and came home. When she tried to start it again..same thing.

So I started looking around under the hood and noticed a bit of corrosion on the little bit of the positive battery terminal that I could see. So I removed the computer and discovered this...

I have never in all my years owning cars seen a battery terminal corroded like that.

Cleaned it off, put some dielectric grease on it and it started right up.

Nice work!  Might want to consider a new battery at this point, too.  How old is the current one?

I'm assuming it is original and I was considering that..because buying a battery in the middle of kitchen reno's is helpful.

Lived through a few of those winters, but those cables full of corrosion will cause problems even with NORMAL temperatures.
