I'm on my second '06 4Runner Sport.  They popped on constantly on my first one, never figured it out.  They'd come on for a week or so, then disappear.

Happened for the first time on the second 4Runner I've had just under a year a couple weeks ago, and they haven't turned off yet.  Any ideas?

Its your gascap..  dont put on the cheap crap from autozone or poopboys.   Buy the Toyota gascap and have them clear the codes...  between myself and my friends we have 3 4runners.  Mines a 2001 with
almost 200000 miles on it.   Went through this one a couple times till I bought the OEM gascap.

Get your codes pulled and post them. Until then, everything is just a guess.

I frequently have this issue in my 2003.

Long run times or heavy working of the truck in high heat or very cold conditions cause the fault. Everything I have found online (and from a code reader) says its related to emissions controls.

Was rear ended in 2012 and had the exhaust rebuilt. I believe there is a leak, that over time, causes the code.

No long term issues though. The 4Runner always passes emissions without any issue. Going on 200k.

I bought a cheap code reader from Amazon. I use it to check and then clear since it is always the same thing.
