| I have a 2008 Nissan Titan that does not have power locks, windows etc. My question is it possible to install a remote start on it without haveing power locks? I've driven rentals that have had that option but you have to hit the remote lock before you can start it, so am I SOL? |

I dont see why power locks/windows would have anything to do with remote start and vice versa. Maybe its too late and I'm loosing my mind. J- Because most remote start systems integrate into the door locks so your car doesnt get stolen. Every remote start Ive ever played with/owned you have to hit the lock button first(even if the doors are already locked) before the remote start button will work. |

Hmmm never had a remote start that you had to hit the lock button first. Including the DEI ones that I put on my dodge cummins and my wife's kia, with out power locks. Every R emote start I have had/installed used the brake pedal circuit to prevent theft while running on the remote start. Hit the brake pedal and the engine dies. Again from my own personal experience, not sure what lack of power locks will have to do with installing a remote start. J- |
| No, you do not need power locks or windows to have a remote start installed. The type you are referring to uses the factory remote (in most cases pressing lock and unlock buttons at the same time) to start the vehicle. However, you can have a stand-alone remote start system installed in your car. I've installed a few but alarms, stereos and remote starters are not my expertise so I usually refer people to a reputable stereo shop in my area. |

What is the perceived benefit of a remote start capability? When it's 20 degrees out and ice covering the vehicle I can remote start it and let it warm up and thaw out. I used to travel a lot for my job and had several rental cars with remote start and you always had to hit the lock button first, as posted above even when the car is locked and then it will shut off after 10 minutes. |
