That is a tough looking TJ.  Are those 35's?  Takes a lot of money and work to get those to ride right with huge tires.

Yeah, 35s. I haven't driven it since he got rid of the 33s, so I don't know how it does now. He did a full Currie lift, but he's still running 3.73s for now. He waiting to hear back from the shop on when they'll get him in to do his 4.88s

I just reclaimed my 05 from my daughter when I sent her off to college in a new Hyundai. The TJ is in the shop as I speak going from 3.07 to 4.56. 6-speed on 32's for now. Getting a locker, too. I'll post a pic next week even though you won't be able to see the new gears.

Designing a new bumper.  Thoughts? The big hoop will be tipped back towards the grill some, just couldn't make it all work with the magnets.  The front hoop will get notched to land flatter on the front.  Hard to describe.  Blue tape will be DOM once we get the rest sorted out.

What is the purpose of the big hoop?  Looks like it mainly adds extra weight to the bumper without any gain.

Went out to Colorado to hit the trails. Did Cinnamon Pass and Engineers Pass. Then my fear of heights kicked in. Spent the rest of the time messing around in Ouray. Had fun but won't be back. Flying doesn't bother me but shelf roads above the tree line do.

I didn’t see this answered, but it’s looks partially, but mostly to protect the grille/radiator in a flop, and the big hoop also adds needed structure and support to the front hoop. The large front loops were called stingers and stuck out way far out front on an angle, not as popular of a look now especially on the street, but very functional offroad going off steep obstacles if your Jeep decided to try and flop on the roof it would keep you from flipping. A Reverse wheelie bar basically and they have to be strong enough to support the weight and the impact forces.

well said, and the other connecting bars are also intended to protect the radiator and the rest from animal strikes and branches.

thanks. that was definitely some of the inspiration.  My business partner made this one about 10 years ago, but these new JLs (especially the diesel) need all the air they can get to the radiators so sunken winch mounts are mandatory.

The genright ain’t perfect though either, the main tube was welded off center slightly, and it’s too wide so I had to modify a few of the mounting bolts to actual fit them in. And because of that, I couldn’t use the bolt on factory style tow hooks included. So I have to wrap soft shackles around the tube for recovery points.

I would have fixed it, but it’s aluminum, and I don’t have a tig machine. But damn it only weighs like 6lbs or so

I want say we did but I'd need to check with my friends. We went up the switch backs to Engineer Pass. The last one was almost straight up into the Sun.

I will say, having a group of 5 vehicles, made things easier. I felt like we had more control of when and where we passed on coming traffic. We even had a couple vehicles join our group. I was fine on those 2 trails but towards the end, found myself staring straight ahead and not enjoying the scenery.

When I was younger I could get over it faster. Go do some repelling or something.

yeah we plan to market it with simpler designs like that for people who don't prefer the grill hoop.  And with the cost of DOM right now there will be a significant price difference. I normally prefer a simpler, cleaner look but there is something unique about a grill hoop on a modern jeep.

I actually didn’t even see the grill hoop at first. The raw tubing blends in with the stingray paint.

Nothing wrong with the grill hoop but I am just partial to the stubby with winch hoop for some reason. When I have actually changed bumpers that’s the style that I always end up with. I used Mealcloak on my TJs but never put bumpers on any of my JKs. For my JL I went with the factory style for now as I just don’t care for the look of the Metalcloak JL bumper. I don’t do anything crazy off-road or rock crawling anymore either or I may think differently on the style.

Thank you. The JL is a work in progress. It’s been a headache since I bought it with one thing or another but I will get it done eventually.

The shackles are mounted on a set of Warn recovery point brackets. I did a set on the rear too but they are made by Maximus.

Finally decided on new sliders from Greenlane Off-Road.

They mount in the same location as the factory rails so they should be more than strong enough to hold up to anything I’ll be doing, plus the aluminum will fare better against the frame-disintegration spray they use on the roads here in the winter. The main reason I’m switching out the factory rails is to get more of a step for the family. It’s not a huge deal now, but it will be once I get my lift and eventually 37s installed. And thanks to the exchange rate they were only $760 powder coated and shipped from America’s Hat.

What’s another $300 on this. lol
Going to order those now too.
Thanks.

That’s what I said too. Might as well go full retard.

I was more aggravated that a set came up in the classified a day or two later at half price. Had I not ordered them there would not have been a set listed for 20 years.

Let me know if I can cost you anymore money. I’m good at that.😂

Half doors are cheap.. Or maybe you would like some custom made retro emblems… Actually the best purchase has been the fob case and while overpriced imo well worth it. The rigid reverse lights were too

Hey, what do you think of the Territory's? I loved my Duratrac's on my other Jeep but I picked up a '17 Rubicon and it currently has the mud terrains on it. They suck ass in the wet. Was going to go Duratracs this fall but these do look promising.

@Orrin

Those aren’t Terriorys, they are actually Ultra terrains. Other than one of my TJs I have run Duratracs on every Jeep I have owned. This go round the 35’s were on back order for months and months. I got frustrated and started looking for something different and across these tires. They are a Discount Tire exclusive but very similar to the Duratracs just slightly less aggressive tread. I’ve got about 5k on them so far and I can’t see any difference between them and the Duratracs. I have not done any off-roading to speak of but have done plenty of rain driving and no issues there. On the highway they are quiet and handling seems good. They balanced out well and I run 80+ every day like it’s nothing. So far I am very satisfied.

If you do end up purchasing a set, download or sign up for activejunky. I had never heard of it until someone on another forum told me about it. They send you cash back if you buy through their app. I purchased those tires from Discount Tire Direct and got 10% off and they shipped them for free. They also among many other places had 4 wheel parts, eBay and some others on there. When I purchased my wheels it was 18% back at 4 Wheel Parts. I stacked some other discounts too and got a hell of a deal. My cash back check came this week and it was just under $900 bucks.

Duratrac left Ultra right.

Man, I must have got in on Duratracs at just the right time. After promotional and military discounts, I paid about $250 a piece out the door for 35x12.50R17s last Black Friday.

Then I had to wait another 3 months for the Method 703s to come back in stock.

Was that a legit Jeep wedding? Neat.

No, but because many of our close friends are either people we met in our Jeep group, or people who joined because of us, we had quite a few jeeps present. We had an extra few minutes, so I wrangled up all the Jeepers and had them stage that pic

Yes, I know the guy on the right threw off the symmetry. Drives me insane. He's...special

And a half done pic with factory on the passenger, and new on the driver to compare the look.

Now, my last decision is to keep the front bumper ends, or swap them for the stubby ends.
Gonna swap and see, I'll get pics, then I can decide properly.

Factory fenders, I say leave the ends on. With those flatties, I say take them off.

My bumper is shaped similarly, and is the reason that I haven't changed my fenders from factory

Random photo dump. We are up to 8 jeeps in my family now, so I'm sure I'll have more pics shortly

The shackles are mounted on a set of Warn recovery point brackets. I did a set on the rear too but they are made by Maximus.

I worked with a guy on Etsy to design and make them. He put them up as a listing but someone complained and Etsy removed the listings. I can send you his email if you’d like.

Spent three days at Ocean City Jeep Week. Had a blast, hundreds and hundreds of jeeps there, all just for fun. Can’t wait to go again next year.
