I think if I had stayed in the grooves I would have just plowed right through that hole.

My mistake: I thought it would be cute to punch it and show off for the camera.

All I did was get out of the groove and push my skid plate up onto something solid, which kept my tires from being able to dig.

I may get another chance at this same mud puddle this weekend.

When you call this a light Jeep it piques my curiosity.  I've wanted to weigh this Jeep at the local truck stop for awhile.

Everything on this Jeep with the exception of the factory seats and the dash pad has been replaced with something else.

99% of the replacement parts are made of steel.  Maybe I will cruise by the truck stop today to visit the scales.

Nasty.....

I have an 8.8 and a built 30 in my TJ, now that I have a JKU doing DD duty I'd love to stretch and ton the TJ....

I have been tempted to swap into a HP44 and stretch with 38s, but .......... I really want tons and 40-43s

Soooooooo

Headed out to test some camo patterns on my hunting AR. This thing was sweet on the trail man. Perfectly geared, never had to hit the brakes or the accelerator.

Getting the Jeep ready for my yearly trip to Ouray and Moab this July.  For the long drive out there and back I've always wanted a way to carry my handgun without it being on my hip the whole time.  I stumbled across this mount for the 2d JK from Molle Platform Solutions.

Attachment Attached File

I then used the QLS detachable mount system from Safariland to be able to quickly attach/detach my holster to the mount.  So far its a very sturdy mount, and even with the huge holster nothing gets in the way of the transfer case lever.

You camping or staying in a hotel?

I have my KOA reservations for Ouray, but haven't made any for Moab yet.  With this whole Covid mess I'm not too worried about lodging.  We'll be arriving Ouray on the 18th and will leave for Moab on the 27th, tentatively.  I love the short little 4 hour drive from Ouray to Moab.

I'm expecting some boxes from Metalcloak tomorrow thanks to their 10% off sale on Memorial day

Staying at Slickrock campground because I wanted showers and bathrooms. I’m planning on trailering and setting my tow vehicle up with a RTT.

In the last 2 weekends I’ve personally put in BDS 2.5” coils, Fox 2.0 shocks, Currie antirock sway bar, poison spyder BFH bumper, and 35x12.5x15 tires. It had a ford 8.8 Rear axle swap out of an explorer in it when I bought it. (I started with those mods, because I picked most of it up second hand from some buddies)

Still need to do control arms (either bds or Currie) a Fox steering stabilizer, and maybe a super 88 rear axle kit.. I’m still between putting in a 44 front axle, or a super 30 axle kit with chromoly axle shafts.. Then I’m into deciding on either selectable lockers, or possibly a Detroit locker truetrac LSD.

Oh, and also kicking around the idea of a Currie currectlync steering system.

Stupid expensive hobby.

+1 on both. Or you can do hi line fenders and a 1 inch body lift... that will set you up for a tummy tuck. Oh yea do a motor mount lift (MML) and it will
A. Help your drive line and
B. Get your oil pan up a little higher.

Currie control arms are much better than BDS.
I run a mix of Currie and BDS on my TJ and a mix of RockKrawler and Currie on my JKU.

I am also running Tru-trac in both the front and rear axles in both Jeeps.

Eh, I want the cog as low as possible. The 35’s have been fine so far (I didn’t mention I have 1.5” spacers too).. I’m planning on losing the stock fenders and going with a Chris Durham rock crawler hood at some point.

Have you been happy with the truetrac’s? I am not getting into super technical stuff, and I think they may be a decent option over Air lockers or e-lockers..

I know you didn't ask me, but I have a TrueTrac in my rear axle, and it has been absolutely terrific, thus far. I don't know it's there when I'm not wheeling, and I just drive it and it's been great.

I wish the Aussie front locker was nearly as transparent.

Yes I am. But, my next "upgrade" will be air or electronic lockers with tons....
I just can't decide if I'm gonna ton and stretch the TJ or just ton the JKU...

As someone who's owned and driven Jeeps off road since the 70's, this machine is impressive.

No steering issues, as mentioned in other Gladiator threads.

One of my favorite rigs back in the 1990's was the 1985 long bed Toyota 4x4 pick up with 4" lift. it was narrow enough for the backwoods and could carry my camping gear. The one below was heavily abused - I bought it for 2K as pictured, and then replaced all broken and damaged parts as a hobby after I retired from the USMC:

The Gladiator has similar dimensions, with far more capability.

I bought this to tow my 2800 lb. Geo Pro off road trailer, and the bed of the Gladiator is just large enough for a generator, chairs, etc., and for the dogs to occupy the back seats.

With lockers, a 4"lift, 35" tires, D44 axles (all models have them), this thing is a mini truck killer for those performance minded owners who intend to go off-road. Plus the aftermarket is gigantic.

This came with 4:10s, but I'm replacing those with 4:88s, so my towing is less impacted by the larger tires.

Spent the week in Ouray.  Rained every damn day.  I was really hesitant to run some of the more spirited trails due to all the rain.

Completed Yankee Boy Basin without any drama.  Well other than the traffic jam caused by an elderly woman who broke her ankle somehow while riding in the back of a "Jeep tour" type of vehicle.

Just a rainy view out of the windshield.

2012 and very early 2013 models, some models had head issues. FCA put a 10 year /150K mile warranty on them. Other than that, the only real issue with them has been the oil filter housing cracking very easily. Lots of complaints about it and a vew part revsions to try and solve the issue.

Okay, rocker arms. It’s a problem that has afflicted the Pentastar engines since their introduction. I just had the pleasure of getting to pay to have both camshafts and all of the rockers and lifters in the right side of my 2015 JKU that has now 75k miles and was originally purchased new in late 2014. The internet is littered with similar stories.

It's interesting to hear people having issues with the 3.6. I've broken more than a few things on my '14 JKU but the motor has been rock solid even with boost thrown at it.

Only had 7800mi on my '18 jkur when I spotted oil on the garage floor. Required a new timing chain cover re-seal. Not a big deal but it gives me pause.

Still within the 3yr/36,000. If the new bronco doesn't wow me enough to trade in, I'll probably extend the 5yr/60,000 portion of my  warrantee.
