Thoughts?  I want one, but I like thumpers

You might as well spend a little more and get the 500.  Especially, if you want to hit the interstate at any time.

Top speed of 100? Interstates around here are 80-85.

I'll pass.

I'm really torn on this one.  I've really tried to like thumpers for onroad use but I just can't quite get there.  The Ninja 300 is still a much better bike in my mind for that use.

Now if they made a CRF300 for dual sport use, I'd be ALL over that!

Maybe dual sport tires could be put on the cb500x. Gearing may suck for dual sport though.

if you plan to just ride it around town, maybe

I won't go below 600, ever.  I prefer 800-liters though.

I had a Suzuki gn400 (a single) that did everything I needed it to, and I miss it dearly. It, however, was 33 years old, 6v electronics, and kick start only.  I figure this one would do everything it did, and EFI and liquid cooling would make up the power difference for the 100cc.

If memory serves, Yamaha is about to re-introduce their 400, but it is still a kick start (with some improvements, supposedly).

Damn you, from the bottom of my bank account.  Looks like I need to start saving my pennies...

What are the prices for the 300 and 400 projected to be?

When I saw the Yamaha, I said to myself, "Yuck!"  Then, I started thinking about how an inexpensive-to-purchase and inexpensive-to-operate (low cc's) might be a perfect combination for around town.
