Any difference in expenses between this vehicle and say your typical dodge?

Get the dodge.
H1 Hummer=looks cool, but sucks to actually live with.

Expensive to maintain. Lots and lots of moving parts. Expensive moving parts. Portal axle hubs are essentially 4 more transmissions on the vehicle.

If you are wealthy go right ahead. If not, reconsider your choice.

Very uncomfortable.  You're basically sitting outboard of the frame rails, so even though the thing is ridiculously wide, the seats are actually quite narrow, and the center console is about 4 feet wide.

The diesel is a total turd - the 0-60 time can be measured in minutes.

Yes, it's an outstanding, unstoppable vehicle, especially offroad.  It can even walk up a wall.

But it's just a rich dude's playtoy, not a daily driver.

Duramax is an excellent engine.  The engine is not that part of the Humvee that requires much work.  No H1 is the answer to your second question.  You seek a pre-2007 non-emissions diesel 4x4.

But seriously?

Diesel:

1st gen ford super duty with the 7.3 diesel

People also had decent things to say about the gmt 800 silverado with the duramax.

Gas?

1st gen tundra with the V8.
