Looking to see if anyone has tried any of the computer/iPad based scanners.   Not interested in the one of the old style ones that just tells you the code.   I found a few that transmit real time data to your computer via a wireless connection.  Wondering of anyone has tried them out and how accurate the software is.

Probably your best bet.  I've been looking for a decent iOS option and haven't found any that have great reveiws like the Torque app.  With small tablets getting cheaper and cheaper I'm thinking about buying one just to run this or I'll get a scanguage.

I use Alex Peper's logger and cable.  http://www.obd-2.com/  Windows based, works great, UI is a bit dated.  Web site is ugly as sin, but he's legit.  :-)

If you have an ios device don't get a bluetooth one get a wifi one. iOS wont support obd2 dongles for some reason unless you jailbreak it.

Plus wireless has better range and can interface with more devices.

very very interesting....whats a good app to use with it?

My iPhone is always with me and I'd not have to run any wires, so this appeals greatly.

I used to own a mobile engine diagnostic business about a decade ago. For the money now you can't beat the Torque app for android and a cheap bluetooth OBD2 dongle. The cheaper ELM327 dongles can be finicky/hit-or-miss sometimes depending on the car and how many gauges you're trying to stream real-time so if you're going to use it all the time i would suggest getting one of the higher quality ones (buy once cry once). However, if you are just going to use it for the occasional CEL check/clear or basic real-time diagnostic then the cheap one will be ok.
