Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good place to send in an oil sample for analysis? What I am most interested in is the viscosity of the oil that is in my car. Does/ can an analysis give you the original and/or current viscosity of the oil sent in??

Thanks!

if that is all you care about, you could do the test at home.

now this isn't going to give you 5.w-30 as the answer.

but if you have a known sample, you can prove or disprove that they are the same viscosity.

NAPA also has a test kit that you send away for analysis

BlackStone Labs is what we use at my shop. Send $25 with the sample and you get an email with everything they found. Great money spent. They recommend oil change intervals based upon your current mileage and oil properties.  I wouldn't go with anybody else.
