I need somebody to school me on pullling codes from a car equipped with OBD1.
I have a 1990 Celica GT-S, 2.2 5SFE motor, 109K on motor, 190K on car. I recently got a CEL on my way to work the other day and I have no clue how to diagnose it.
It wasn't accompanied by a change in engine performance and a check under the hood doesn't reveal anything obvious.
If its something stupid like an O2 sensor or something emissions related I can gaff it off and ignore it, but if it's something important I want to know.
I'm pretty mechanically inclined, meaning I can take shit apart and put it back together correctly, but I suck at anything electrical and I suck at diagnostics.
If anybody could point me in the direction of an OBD1 for noobs primer or something with big pictures and small words I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Not sure the difference between 1 and 2 but you can often go to a auto parts store and they will read the code for you. It maybe the basic code reader and just give you a number but a internet search can reveal what that code is for. Also basic code readers are not super expensive and always a good tool to have in the home workshop.

OBD1  diagnostics are unique to each manufacturer, That's why the EPA mandated a standard for all manufacturers after 1996. You need to find someone that can read codes on a Toyota.
