Essential info:

3.4l gm v6 60 degree engine with a 2 barrel varajet carburetor.

Running an electric fuel pump, 4-8 psi. Pump is located just under a foot from the gas tank and is mounted on frame. Pump is activated by oil pressure fuel cutoff switch that turns on at 5psi of oil pressure.

Oil pressure is good. Switch is good. Fuel pump flows about 7psi when connected straight to a gauge and flows with no problems when line is disconnected from carb and placed into a gas can.

I have a clear fuel filter about 6 inches from where the fuel line goes into the carburetor.

Problem is that I seem to have flow issues that has caused the engine to die several times now. Eventually, the float bowl will fill up and then no problems until it randomly happens again.

When it does occur, I check the clear fuel filter and it seems like the fuel pump is not pushing fuel, but, I don't believe it's the pump.

Ideas?

Try replaceing the oil sending unit, Worked on one like that years ago but it ended
up being a oil pump issue. Would loose oil pressure and you could actually hear the
lifters start making noise before it would run out of gas. You could always run a
jumper wire and bypass the oil sending unit which should basically hotwire the fuel
pump. If that fixes it i would look at the oil pressure or oil sending unit. They also
have a fuel filter in the fuel inlet on the carb. Make sure you have changed that as
they clog very easy.

I have actually jumped the switch with the same results as far as gas flow, no different. I could swear that i left out the filter in the carb, but i dont know for sure. Will be checking that. Oil pressure switch and sensor is tee'd together, and sensor is good.

Im gonna bet that you are on with the fuel filter.

check the sock on the fuel pickup in the tank also

If your carb has a float, it may be sticking.  



You might have an ignition problem.

Ignition is fine.

Sock in fuel tank, as of 4 months ago was new and tank was super clean.

I did have an issue last week where the float stuck open and I flooded the engine though.

EDIT:

Pulled the fuel inlet from the carb and I did in fact have the filter installed there. I've pulled that and I believe that may solve that problem.

It would not be the first time that the filter has caused me a problem as I have had the rubber check valve get stuck in one before and then had no fuel going in to the float bowl.

did you check for a ping pong ball in the tank?















No, gas will not degenerate the ball, and it will float for a decade.

Fuel goes down, follows the flow to the fuel pump inlet, gets sucked in, car no go
