Been looking for a road bike for a while now, but didn't really know what I wanted.  An 05 sv650s popped up on craigslist with a pretty decent asking price.  Went to look at it and took it home.  The body is a bit rough, the guy who had it went mad max on it and gave it a flat black rattle can paint job.  It has a pretty good sized dent in the tank too.  I plan on riding it until the weather turns bad, then this winter time I will tear it down completely and fix or replace anything needed.  I'll also get rid of the current "paint job" and put down something a little nicer.  Any suggestions for colors?  My brother said to have the side panels hydro dipped camo and do o.d. on the tank, would be cool, but I think that might be a little over the top for me.  Anybody know where good deals on tires are?  Anybody have one of these, and would like to offer up some good info on it, as far as what wears out, what to look for, mods etc?  Here is a cell pic of it's current state.

Thats a good look for the bike, personally I would leave it flat black. For tires i usually buy them online it tends to be cheaper. www.revzilla.com and www.motorcyclesuperstore.com.
You could find better deals from time to time at other places on the net.

Keep the rubber side down.

Those are bad ass bikes. Should be about bullet proof, as long as you keep up on the maintenance.

I found my latest tires on Ebay, and they were cheaper by about $30, for the pair.

Gunner,

Good lookin ride there!

The SV's are great, reliable bikes. I agree with the others here, the flat black looks good....It seems weird to have the windscreen painted though....

Maybe find a replacement screen. Please dont paint it the camo scheme that you mentioned, that sounds hideous

Ride safe!

How many miles?

Valve jobs are a bit of a pain on those. Should be checked in 15k intervals.

Fender eliminator, and convert it to a naked bike

I'd check valves at 20K, odds are they'll still be in spec.  Lots of resources at socalsvriders.com and svrider.com

Curious that they painted it, yet left teh rear fender, and reflectors in place.  23K miles on my K3, oil changes, tires, and a new chain/sprockets at 20K.

You may want to replace teh oem rear shock with one out of a gsxr or ZX6.  GSXR front end is always nice too.

Thanks for the info and advice guys.  Yeah I will not be doing the camo/od paint job.  The bike has just under 10,000 miles on it.  I have started to go through it already, seems to be in pretty good shape.  The last owner apparently wasn't smart enough to know the difference between metric and standard fastener though, spent some time rethreading.  Think i found some inspiration for the paint job.  If I don't stick with the flat black I really like this color scheme.

What do you think?

Too Harley-esque for me, but solid orange on the black frame would be an eye grabber.

Change the orange to Suzuki yellow.
