I have a 96 suburban that has been having a problem with the volume of air coming out of the vents. The fan appears to be fine. I can hear the fan running as it should on any speed setting. Any ideas on where I should begin to look for the problem ?

probably the blend doors. see if it is moving air out of the floor and defrost too.
if so, look for cracked vacuum lines.

If I remember right, the blend door on those, is vacuum operated. If it is, check for broken, or missing hoses, at the source (manifold?) and the door itself.

Might also check the air inlet for debris.

Did the 96 have a cabin air filter?

I'm wondering if it had a cabin air filter as well.

I don't think they did back then. They still used the same basic system that they used in the 80's in that dash. Super basic, and flat!
