Hey guys I need some help on a trade deal. A guy has a 97 Ford PSD, crew cab f350 with a 5spd trans. He has stated that he never has done injectors or hpop lpop etc, just changed oil, air filter etc. Anyway it has all the goodies power, cruise etc. Rubber flooring and the seats have had seat covers for ever. It has a fancy winch type bumper with lights in it. He purchased it from a buddy and the buddy had a flatbed on it. He pulled the flatbed and put a white bed on it, the truck is green. The guy stated there exists a bit of white smoke on start up but otherwise no issues. It has 237k miles. He wants $5150 but we are hammering out a deal.
He wants $2500 cash and some items for trade. I proposed $2,500 cash, my 1995 dodge ram 1500 with 96k (good runner, 4x2, v6, 5spd paint is shit. which I value at $1000-$1,500.) plus $1k in firearms trade value likely a remington 1100, a 300 win mag, and probably a cz52 pistol. The guy has also stated that he would accept less cash probably about $1k, and I can send the rest over when I get it. In terms of the bed that works out perfect I've got a 84 ford with a nice new flatbed on it that I can't move so I'm gonna pull the flatbed and throw it on the new ford. The paint isn't an issue as I said because I'm pulling the bed and that cab appears ok, but either way I got a new idea for the paint anyway. We are going to meet in the middle on driving which is about 4 hours for both parties. My question is does this sound like a good deal, or a nightmare waiting to happen? |

save your money for a duramax, ford sucks Outside of the fan boy sentiments, good trade. I'm not sure what to think btw my buddy stated he tore his ujoints/pretzled his driveshaft the other day in his duramax. I said "You were getting on it at stop lights huh." He said "How did you know?" I just smiled and laughed. I don't know if that means the drivelines are shit, or the trucks are powerful. He said the dealer tried to rape him on a new drive shaft though stating they are hard to get/come by. Well if I can break I'm sure its not that unlikely to obtain.

My gut says pass...... Yeah I was thinking it was a decent deal as the guy used to use the truck for work but now lives in the city and simply doesn't need it. It looks real clean but the unknown aspect of injectors etc. scares me. I am getting the vin and an engine pic so I will see what maintenance has been done via the dealer, see if any accidents have occurred and look at turbo color. |

ETA I forgot to mention that he referenced it may need a new driveline. Apparently when shifted into 4x4 there is a clunk, clunk, clunk type noise. But function isn't impaired. I wouldn't waste your time with that truck. There are plenty others out there. |
