I know it's the hippy car around here but anyone have one?
Thoughts? Problems? |

I had a 2000 and the head gasket blew because they used defective ones, At about 104K, it needed a head gasket job. I scrapped it and needless to say I won't be buying anymore Subaru or is it SubaScrew? May I ask what you drive now? Anything you swear by? |

We have an 2003 Outback with 110k on it and so far it's been a great vehicle. I've been thinking about trading it in for a newer model since they supposedly get much better mileage. The best I've gotten is 26mpg. I average around 23-24mpg with mixed driving.
It goes so good in the snow that if you don't watch you'll be going fast enough to really fuck up. It also has enough room for a family of four and your things if you pack light. It's comfortable, fun to drive and handles like it's on rails. If you get the 6 cylinder you don't have to worry about timing belts. I just had mine changed and it cost around $800 which is a little steep for my area. Factory parts are fairly expensive but not any more than other Japanese cars. Aftermarket parts are very reasonable. If you're a DIY mechanic working on them is pretty straight forward but sometimes you have to take off a good bit of parts to get to what you're working on but they come apart like Legos so it's really not that bad. FIL has a new Outback, it's about 6 months old now. I used it for a week running around Dallas and I liked it.
On the Hwy it knocked out 32.5 mpg and if my memory serves me well, around 27 in town. I liked the ride, it took me a little while to get used to the steering, it seemed overly sensitive to me. Understand that I drive a 3/4 ton truck or a modified Jeep around mostly. No issues have occured with the car. |

Quoted: Quoted: I don't have an outback, but my 2008 WRX is fucking awesome. This I have the WRX wagon, I got 2 sheets of plywood and 30 2x4s in mine the other day. Mine is also a wagon, so easy to throw 2-3 long gun cases in the back, plus target stands, range gear, and ammo. I can throw a towel over the whole mess and drive to the range without looking like I've got a car full of guns. |

I kid....kinda. I work with a number of dykes... they do have a strong preference towards Subaru wagons ![]() I find Subarus to be overpriced and legroom severely limited.

I can get 2 double gun cases in without folding the back seats, plus gear and ammo. I fold the seats when I take 5 or 6 cases to the range. The outback will be considerably bigger than my wrx wagon. |

Not in the full size cases I have (pelican 1700). Uncased, sure, you can throw a 16" AR in the back without folding anything down. I fold down the 40 side of the 60/40 split rear, and stack gun cases and target stands on the section that is folded flat. Ammo, range bags, etc... all goes in the back. |
