3 months ago i bought a 98 f150 4x4. so far i really like it. im using it as a side job truck, with 3 tool boxes and all my tools id guess there is 8-900 lbs in the bed. if i hook up a air compressor or small trailer it sags a bit more than id like. the solutions ive come up with are a lift block under the leafs, an add a leaf kit, air shocks or a set of coil over shocks.

all things considered im wanting to do this on the cheap, im thinking the coil over shock will be easy to install and more reliable long term? all im really trying to do is compensate for the 800 ish pounds already on the truck. your comments and or feedback?

how are you planning on doing coilovers with leafsprings in the rear?  this would be very expensive and just plain dumb.  If you want your truck to sag less in the rear with a load on, just buy some add a leafs.  these are quick, cheap and easy and will make it so your truck does not sag under load as much.

please to note COIL OVER SHOCK lots of them on ebay for approx 125 a pair.you. seems would be less labor then adding a leaf. many searchs have put doubt in my mind the shock mount to be strong enough to support much additional load

I see what you mean about coil overs now, I was thinking that you were originally talking about doing a leafspring to coilover swap, which replaces your current rear suspension for the coilover only system.  Looking at those coilovers, they look like they would be very easy to install yourself with a few tools.  However not knowing much about them, I wonder how long they last.  See if you can find some good reviews of them.  If not I would still recommenced doing add a leafs.  You can install leafs into the pack yourself with a few of the right tools.  Look into what that takes and decide if you think you can do this yourself.

350/ea is a lot for leafs. Even Alcan or Deaver will make you springs for around that.

Leafs would be a better idea, imo; you can probably just add an add-a-leaf to the rear to increase spring rate, and thus increase load bearing capacities.
