What is everyone's opinion of these bikes? I'm considering an 06' Victory 8 Ball. I had been trying to find an HD night train, but this bike caught my eye. |

They are neat bikes. I have no personal experience with them but I have checked them out in the interwebs and they just seem pricey to me. I like the triumph thunderbird. 1700 cc and 113 ft/lbs torque for under 13k new. Oh wow, I see the 8ball has 113 ft/lbs torgue too for damn near the same price. That is sweet! |

I love Victory motorcycles. I'm not even a cruiser guy by any stretch, but I've got exactly two brands I'd seriously consider - Triumph and Victory. I just like the ergos of the Kingpin and the (Triumph) Speedmaster, and not many other cruiser ergonomic layouts seem to fit to me for whatever reason.
I've also got a buddy that's a Victory/Polaris engineer. From his own mouth, he says anything '02 and more recent is good. Anything '01 and before can be kinda dodgy. Take it for what it's worth; there are plenty of early V92 owners that have had excellent experiences with their bikes, dialing up 6-figure mileage numbers. By most accounts, the later 92s, 100s, and 106es are all pretty unstoppable. And yes, I've been trying to get him to design a big sport-tourer on the Vision platform, somehow. They've got a lot of creative dudes up there; I have no doubt that they could pull it off. The problem would be convincing Polaris execs to let them dump a few million into developing one! I assume you're referring to the Vegas 8-ball? The only real down-side I could think of (compared to a Night Train) would be the fuel tank. If it's dinged or dented along the contouring on the side, it'd be a tough fix. They're not cheap to replace, either - whereas H-D parts are all over the place, and reasonably-priced. However, there are plenty of power-enhancing parts available, if you're into that whole "accessorize the bike with more money than what you paid for the bike in the first place" scene. I'd have no qualms about riding the shit out of a Victory. The Ness models with the meathead "tribal" paint schemes, chrome crap, and skulls are beyond me (I have a feeling the Vic engineers have been less than impressed with some of marketing's decisions...), but for the 8-Ball and standard models, the paint is nice, the bits are all well-finished, and they exude a more unique style than lots of the same-old-same-old recycled-design cruisers that are out there. |

I wouldn't set out to change the entire bike, but I certainly like to make things my own. You know- give it my own touch. |

Funny, ...
I don't really care for the looks of the originals, at all. Based on the web site pics, I would never even consider one. Now, having said that,... those custom versions, above, are awesome. I especially like the one labeled "GT 500". The one in the first pic ain't half bad, either. |
