| Who has used or uses a pc based OBDII scan tool? I am thinking I would rather go that route than a dedicated handheld with a line or two of text or small display that might be outdated when I buy my next new vehicle ––for now I would only be using it on My wifes Cherokee('01) and the occasional neighbors/friends car and perhaps some of the late model Chevy and Ford ('02-'10)vans at the shop. Although I have noticed some of our heavier trucks(sterlings/internationals––with MBE's/Allisons in em)have what looks like an OBD pattern connector also ––since I am the lucky guy that usually gets to figure out whats wrong with stuff it may come in handy. A search turned up a whole bunch and the options are mind boggling as are some of the prices ––looking for something for a DIY'er with some more advanced capability but not a full blown professional diagnostic machine. If you have used one give me some idea of what to look for ––whats a good deal to get started with ––maybe expand later ? |

Well not much response there so its just you and me I guess Zack....
I have downloaded and installed OBD-DIAG freeware and am gonna get one of the OBD2-USB cables off of e-bay and see how that works all told they run about $20 delivered (usually something like 4.99 and $15 delivery or $.01 price and $19.99 shipping etc something like that) Dealextreme has similar if not the same items just as cheap. From what I have read the freeware with the cables is crappy at best and alot of people like the OBD_DIAG download. Plus there are tons other free/shareware or purchase SW out there once you have the hardware interface. So we will wait for airmail from China and then report back. ––or well this guy is closer so we will give this a tryUSB/OBDII CABLE |
