Not.
Now I am a young guy and make approx $14K annually. I have already filed my state and fed tax using the online tax prep by H&R block. Both were accepted and I have already gotten my refund from the state. That is fine. However the feds say I owe them $55. They say my federal tax was $255 and that I have paid $200 and that I still owe them $55. I have not paid them anything, $200 or $255. My filing said I did not need to. Now since I make so little I get a small refund from both the state and feds. So I don't understand why they would just not take $55 out of my refund that I should have coming. I don't expect you to really advise or understand the above. But... Here is my question. Should I go down the H&R and pay $35 to get them too look over this small mess? If they find it is all in order then I still must pay the $55 plus I now owe them $35. $55 is not much I don't understand why the feds are charging me it, but is it worth paying $35 to find out? [:// What say YOU? |

Id be pissed at HRBlock, their usually just knuckleheads that'll hire anyone during tax filing time from 01-to 04.(you did it online?) Insist they pay it or straighten it out. |

He used their online service. They won't fix anything, unless it is a software error. The notice from the IRS will say what the additional money is for. So, enlighten us. What does it say? It looks like you were simply under withheld for the $55, but it may be something else. |

Go dig out your W2 and your copy of the 1040 (probably 1040EZ) that you E-filed. Go online to another free place (taxact.com) and plug in all your numbers again. You should only have a few boxes, so it'll be easy. Don't bother with state, just federal. Compare that to the figures that the HR Block software gave you.
The 'taxes paid' are shown as the amount in box 2 of your W2. If this says '200' then that's what the IRS is saying you've paid already. Even with an AGI of 14000, 200-250 seems really low. Just double check the figures using a second tax prep program. A 14K return should be easy enough - if they say you owe em a 50, you probably do |

Ok the exact IRS statment says:
Item on you Return Your Figures IRS FIgures Adjusted gross income 14,366 14,466 Taxable Income 5,416 5,416 Total Tax 255 255 Total Payments 200- Amount Unpaid 55 Total Amount Owed 55 It is straight forward. But it is strangs how HR said the feds would be giving me $90 back and then I get this? Ya I filed online. |
