My father recently retired and we are thinking of opening up a small online based business for him to run.  I have a question in regards to business locations, can I register a company (LLC) in a different state that does not have a state sales tax?  It seems to me that this would make the accounting a little easier by not having to worry about if I sold goods to citizens in my current state (no store front, purchase online and then shipped).  Anyways, it was a thought I had and was wondering if it would possible or simply not worth it.

You will still have nexus in your current state, and you will be required to collect and remit the sales tax.

It will be well worth the money to do a two hour or so consultation with a CPA or an attorney that does work with business start-up issues (not all do).

Thanks TAxPhd, I already have some references for accountants and am going to meet with one.  It was just a thought that hit me.
