I'm thinking about getting in for some. What are your thoughts? All other card company stocks have gone 4-5 fold increase from IPO. Edited, your right VISA not MC. |
| Its -->VISA, (same thought though) MC went public a while back(2-3yrs) and as you pointed out went straight to double in value w/in a yr and 1/2, IIRC.- I was not aware any other CC companies were public EXCEPT MC-DC -not Amex/. Things rarely happen twice like that. But who knows. VISA was supposed to go public last yr..Oct-Nov IIRC. Particularly with alot of folks just bailing on their debt obligations, hense the new bankruptcy laws. Maybe thats their reasoning to raise money with more stringent laws comming down the pipeline. Your call. Good Luck! |
| There will be a big leap and then huge profit taking on the first day. Unless you're an insider or have some way of acquiring shares before the IPO I wouldn't try to jump in as soon as you can since you'll most likely be railroaded by insiders as they profit off of the first few days of activity. Wait till the profit taking settles down and try to get a good position in |
I doubt this has any impact on Visa. They are the clearing house for transactions - they don't actually loan out and collect any debts. With more and more transactions going plastic, getting a small cut on every sale in the country wouldn't be a bad little business. Of course, I haven't seen any of the projected financials either, but if you think the economy will have a downturn, then factor that into your decision. |

I put in for some with my broker, but the odds of getting any are less than 50% and the paperwork for IPO investing has to be on file, etc. before you can "participate". IPO's are allotted according to a ranking system that includes the number of IPO's that you participate in, your average investment in them, etc. and it makes it difficult for the average person to get any shares of an attactive IPO. As stated earlier, VISA just skims a fee off of every transaction as a service provider, they do not lend money to cardholders. If it does 1/2 as good as MC did, I would be happy. MC came out at $ 39.00 in May of 2006 and trades today at $ 191.50 with a 52 week high of $227.18. The initial price of VISA is already set to be within a range of $37-42 per share. |
