i love seeing it go above 10 bucks . i could only hope it will continue on the same path . 688 |
i got 60 pounds at right around 2 bucks an oz. 688 |
Do you think we will see silver that low? $2.50 would really be a drop from todays prices, I could see maybe $6.00 but I think it's just to tough to mine and process for $2.50 , and speaking of digging the stuff out of the ground, anybody know what mine has the lowest production cost per ounce on silver? |
|
I remember the cheap gold of the late 90s, that killed lots of small and medium size gold miners like Echo bay, (now part of Kinross) if I recall correctly it was caused by central banks selling their gold holdings to buy other investments. |
It is still an excellent price to buy. Metals are only going up from here on out- the fiat FRN is showing it's true colors-three lies printed on paper. The price relationship between gold and silver is at the historical low, 55 to 1 in relation to the price of gold. Both metals will continue the upward trend in relation to worthless paper, but silver has even more room to move because of it's low price in relation to gold. |

I have 15.75 pounds of silver bars, thats two 100 oz bars, and five 10 oz bars. Plus 20 some one ounce rounds, then theres the silver dollars, halfs, quarters, and dimes. All bought up while prices were at the $3 to $6 an ounce. I remember finding silver in my change when I was a kid. I think silver will go even higher... |
Silver might be on a short term artificial high due to the (mexican?) mine news. it could go down a small amount after some other news is made known. http://www.resourceinvestor.com/pebble.asp?relid=17761 |
Yep, lots of pennies before 1984 out there. Could be a sleeper investment, but there are so many! I remember a while back someone said it took a hundred and some pennies to make a pound?? meaning a copper penny was worth more than a penny... |
Actually its pennies that are made before '82 that are copper. Although only half of the '82 dated pennies are copper, the other half are the copper coated zinc, since its too much of a hassle to figure out which is which I just sort out all '81 and earlier pennies. www.coinflation.com According to this site copper pennies are worth $.017. On a pound for pound basis though nickel is has more value, but also according to that site the intrinsic value of a nickel is only $.04, so it still has more face value than intrinsic value. A quick calculation tells me it takes about 150 pennies to make a pound. |
What makes you think the prices are going down? Don't you know about the shortage of silver? Don't you know about the fear of investors about the trade deficit, inflation, and instability in the middle east? Not to mention the soon-to-be silver ETF. by the end of the year we will see $18-$20 silver. And thats not including the possible face off with Iran. If Iran stops exporting oil in retaliation of an embargo, silver will skyrocket. |
i see that you are plugged in also . we will never see silver as low as it is today . 688 |
I think it's an artificial shortage caused by hoarding. Just my gut feeling.
All of that's been going on for decades!
That's probably the biggest run up on the price from what I've been reading.
Oil will skyrocket too. You may be right on the $18-$20 range, but if it does get to that range the only cause will be investor fear - panic buying - not market fundamentals such as trade deficit, inflation, etc. I've seen bubble markets before, recently the housing bubble, not so recently the tech stock bubble, and then there was the original silver/gold bubble back in 1979-80 where silver went up to $50 an ounce. If somone panicked bought silver at $50 an oz, 26 years later they still lost 75% of their investment. |
I think this ETF might cause a sharp run up in prices, then a sharp drop after they get done buying their 130 million ounces of silver. But I'm not an expert either. I've just been reading and reading and reading for the past few months. This sure will be fun to watch, though! |
I have a few oz of silver and some silver coins, nothing in large quanities. I did snatch 2 BU rolls of Kennedy halves about 4 years ago at $42 a roll, and another 1/2 roll for $20 something. I'm a coin collector and love silver half dollars! |
|
If you've got silver coins to sell, how do you go about finding a reputable dealer? My sibs and I inherited some from our mother. Since we don't know their value, or if any one in particular is worth more based on collectible value than the others, we figured we should just sell them all and split the $ equally. The coins are dollars, half-dollars, quarters, and dimes. They've been issued/circulated and are in rolls. Just like anything else, we obviously won't get "retail" value for them, but we don't want to get ripped off either. Any advice appreciated. |
goto eBay or online coin price guides to get a feel for what they'll fetch This is a good place to start www.ecoinprices.com/ |
This guy is so right, from an investing perspective. Unless you plan on minting your own currency after SHTF, you need a sell price in mind. If not you're just going on one long roller coaster ride, laughing when it goes up and crying when it goes down. |
