I know Uncle Sam liked to keep an eye on transfers of $10,000 and over but I heard they lowered the snoop limit to $5,000. What amount do they track nowadays?

The "official" answer or the truth? You mean like the "official" response that they aren't recording your phone conversations, text messages or emails? Or the fact that they really are databasing them all in case they "need" them. You know....in case you are a terrorist.

Sorry for the smart-aleck response. I've just come to the conclusion that privacy in America is a fantasy.

Last I heard it was anything $5k and over that is reported.

In reality, they know everything thanks to the cooperation of the banks.

I would bet they track everything. However the IRS really only cares about larger amounts. Im sure if I deposited $100 cash every week the NSA might look at it, but the IRS wouldnt waste their time looking into if I have paid taxes on it.
