I was asked by a prospective client to implement one of these.  My inclination is to say no, and point them in the direction of a pre-existing solution, so do any of you have a preference?

Their only real requirements are that it:

1. Be web-based and linkable from their website

2. Support multiple users, possibly with different access roles

3. Be usable on a tablet browser as well as desktop

I would add that it would be nice to be able to tweak the graphics a little to make it match their website.

Sounds like it should be doable for under $100 a month easy, whereas anything I write for the guy would take probably two or three weeks to get up to speed.  Even without hosting costs factored in, the break-even point would be, like, 2147 AD.

Look at ebillity.  I use it for its integration with quick books, but it also has its own invoicing piece.

We're currently looking at Authorize.net integrating for billing. We also have a custom backend that will give users' specific accesses based on what they've purchased (its a data-driven service).

Not very cheap, at least on the backend. But there are pre-made solutions for Authorize.net integrations that aren't too time consuming.
