| Going there this summer for my deployment. Can anyone tell me what it's like now? Is it calmed down or still as wild as it was a couple years ago. |

theres been a lot of violence there in comparison to the rest of the country - yesterday a SVBIED took out a police station, a couple weeks back a guy dressed as a cop took out a couple of soldiers an a terp, a couple days before that a LTC got taken out in an MRAP, and a couple weeks before that they took out a Caiman and was the first attack to actually kill crew members.
Then there was that Major who got killed by indirect at his CHU on Christmas Eve three days in country.... yeah, as far as Iraq goes its still the worst place. |

Need to watch what you post, borderline OPSEC violation. Yes everything mentioned is open source, but no need to roll it all together as a full intel dump for the bad guys. |

None of whats been posted is violating OPSEC, all this is shit has been reported on the news and is pretty open to the public. Got it, the OP needs to hit a secure forum and learn some useful shit though. All the stuff that's being posted here is damn-near useless information you can get from CNN. |

Just maybe Achmed didn't know exactly what happened. Even most news articles about deaths don't point to a specific event. Trust me, I feel the pain to our lost comrades. Both of the those days sucked big time. |

Just got back from Marez early this year, my advice is to watch your back. if you must work with the IA, force them to do what they must. They will let you do everything for them if you do not make them do it. They need to learn how to operate on their own without us. Never turn your back on any of them, ever!
Good luck, stay safe and do what you gotta do. After the first few months the time will start to fly by at least it did for us. Godspeed |
