Are you on a MIT team by chance? Is this for IA's or what? |
|
Thanks for the replies and IM's thus far. It's midnight, so I need to hit the rack. I thought I might just post the address. I don't live on the FOB (it's a few hours away) and my name isn't on it, so it's been cleared to use. To answer a few questions, they do need go bags, (your kids old backpack from school would even do) gloves of any kind, any color, and those little LED lights. They love them. Any US kit in fact, no matter what it is, they'll find a use for it. And no, I am not on a MIT Team. My understanding is that they mainly do sort of an AIT program. Our guys were already pretty far along when we got them, and we're just honing their skills. ETA: Oops! The address: 3B2 FOB Sykes 9523 APO AE 09351 |
USPS has flat rate boxes that should make it pretty inexpensive, up to 30lbs per box I think. You might be limited more by space than weight though, but I would check that out. |
Just sent a pair of Flatrates to another member. I used the packing tape with fibers to hold it from X-ploding. Stuff ships in the AM. Pete |
Its an "over seas" addy...Just fill out the addy on your box like you would for anything else and it will get there... |
thanks. |
No, thank all of you guys. The response has been great. As for the name, well... We tried just using our first names, but a certain postmaster thought he was winning the war on terrorism by not letting my mom send a package addressed that way. Seems sending it to a guy named "3B2" made much more sense to him! For the customs form-I hope some of you old timers will appreciate this: Replace the "3B2" with "Charlie Khan." It'll get to me, I promise. |
i could probably swing a couple G2L's(and a few other little things)....just put off one of my BRD purchases for a little bit. assuming the need wont dry up in the next 2-3 weeks.... i dont have the stuff laying arround. |

I'm on a gun truck escorting supply convoys from Arifjan, Kuwait to anywhere in Iraq you could possibly imagine. If you spend a lot of time at any places close to Rt. Tampa I can probably drop you a package off. Im not really sure what I have here that I can spare but I know Ive got some extra mags I dont need, send me a IM. You still going to be around in July? I'll be back home, and Ive got a whole extra LCE, plus three different camelbacks (one is a big backpack) in my locker back in the US, plus a duffle full of shit at my mom's house. |

I have quite a few 3 pocket mag pouchs for 30 rd mags. I will dig through my 782 gear and box them up. I spent 18 months in Al Anbar, and we received gear from the states for the sniper teams. About the only way to get items you need in the sandbox is to have someone ship them to you. USPS shipping prices are very resonable since you are only paying to ship the item to New York. The military ships the rest of the way for free. It's really great to see all the email support from the forum for our troops. Anything else you guys need, let us know. "Get some" |
IM sent. Thanks. |
Uh oh, a Marine type. ![]()
It does a lot to make up for the rampant asshattery that is sometimes too common on this board. This is the side of Arfcom that I like. |

weptek911 Actually, the best I can do is buy them all some $2.00 sunglasses at the Tsug (Bazaar) There is nothing in the way of ballistic eyewear available unless we get to a larger FOB like Marez, which will never happen. (Ipassed through it on the way here) The little FOB a few hours from us has nothing. I've got three sets of clear lens eye protection (all scratched to one degree or the other) and I usually loan out the other two. Which brings me to an observation: Can you believe the pics of guys stacking on a door in shades? |

I had briefly thought of it, but after the first go around in Afghanistan in '02, that got worn out kind of fast. We actually had teams get cool guy watches, Garmins, ski googles-I half expected to start seeing logos stenciled on helmets. As time goes on, I think manufactures might get weary of the requests. That said, before this deployment, Surefire sent me two helmet lights, and Grip-pod sent me an M4 grip-pod. I evaluated them, and eventually the battalion put them on the SOR. I just purchased them an ass load of sunglasses today. Just for mounted patrols, to keep the dust out. We still tell them not to wear them during CQB, because they probably would otherwise. |
Okay, I'll get some ballistic eye wear (shooting glasses) together along with some web gear/pouches. |

Mr. 18B your mailbox was full again when I tried to IM you again. You can email me at my civilian email address. [email protected] |

Well, I was finally able to get to the FOB, and the response was overwhelming. I'd like to thank all of you who have helped out. Barring any shenanigans from outside sources, I'm going to distribute everything tonight, and I'll be sure to get pics. I've got a little something I'll be sending to each of your return addresses. Thanks again to everyone. And CrossedBrassRifles, I missed your last post until now. I'll email you soon. |
