SEAL's, Ranger's, Delta, etc. Anyone here from any Special Operations units? (I wonder if you could even tell me anyway?,.......probably) If so, what? Also, what is it like? Do you like it? What's your rank, etc. I have concidered joining the military, although I am not so shure what I want to do with my life as of yet. (as I really want to be richhough, Just trying to see what it's like before I dedicate my life.... |
Um. You're....um... <CoC non-compliant shit redacted> |
First of all. You're asking that question. I know for a fact we have at least 2 Special forces soldiers on this board and several PMC's. Only a few of the PMCs have admitted it. Most SeALs and GBs have enough opsec to not admit it in public, much less here. To do so, then talk about what it's like would probably cost them their jobs. That's all common sense. I'm curious myself as to how old you are. Honestly, you do come off as kinda young. |
you dont have the maturity to do what you think you want to do in the military. |
A lot of their capabilities are. One's you've seen on tv will not deploy on missions after that. The only ones I've ever seen on TV were former seals like Harry Humphries, Denny Chalker, Dick Marcinko, Jim Watson, and Baldo the wonder seal. You will not see an active duty fully qualified seal on TV Also, a lot of work PMCs do isn't exactly open for dissimination. |
|
I saw SEAL's, on the news, broadcasting to a news reporter, the mission the were doing. A before and after type deal. I could see their faces and all. They even said what guy they were going after, with lots of video footage of the mission and so forth. I have also seen things on tv like the BUD's training thing. They went on to become real SEAL's. I also saw some things about SEAL tactics and SEAL snipers on tv. Still don't really get what is so secret. |
And those guys will never go on sensitive missions again. Seriously, how old are you? |
If you actually think they are doing that live then you are mistaken, National Geographic does such shows from time to time. most likely aired long after those teams are out of country. give it a few more years and then do your research. also your maturity on here is not on par with what is needed in most low ranking positions in the military, i would advise you to think about doing something other than... |
Look, you came here into a forum for DEPLOYED members of our armed forces, and started asking questions that are not only not exactly in line with what this forum was intended for, but are framed in a very immature way. Then, when it was explained you were in a place inhabited by professionals who likely are not going to talk, on that subject, to you based upon thier need for discretion, you argued with that as well. You want to hang out here, do just that. Sit back, read, and learn. Don't argue with the guys who have been there-done that when you get an answer that does not jive with what you see on TV or video games... that is not real life. The guys answering you have LIVED it. |
I see you haven't been stuck in USAREC, have you? For the OP, go to socnet, professional soldiers, or lightfighter, and read--don't post--just read. Knock off the ghey shit. ETA: no, I'm not "spec ops" or anything close to it. |

im more of a "low speed high drag" type...tanker....but i have worked with rangers, seals, and CAG both in the rear and in iraq. plus im stationed at Benning, the home of the infantry, ranger school, and 3-75 ranger. heres my expert opinion. join the army and see if you can hack basic. then go to RIP and see if you make it. try to pass SF selection and q course from the regiment, then delta (CAG) will find YOU if the they so choose. if you want to be a seal you will have to join the navy, and risk getting stuck in the navy if you fail buds. at least with the army even a mildly retarded poser can fall back on a career in the infantry if their aspirations for movie star glory fall through. plan #2....buy some oakleys and 5.11 vests, grow a beard, and hit local shoots and gunshows. they might buy it. BTW, its not so much everything is so "top secret" with the HSLD types, they just dont have much to talk about with guys that arent as cool as they are. its the truth. |
BS. seals are people just like everyone else. so are delta and SF guys. they may not do a lot of talking about things missionwise but 90% of the ones ive met have no problem with talking to you about the jobs themselves. the mystique and nonsense that surrounds them is legendary. they dont live inside a smoky mist on a mountaintop somewhere, they do show up on film, and no they will not hold the secret of their presence in special operations inside until the day they die. shit most of them walk around with tshirts and tatoos. |

damn you guys are harsh on the little ones! holy shit......look guy, there are other forms of Specops too, youve got Airforce PJs army Psyop and CA units PS.....its hard but not impossible, raw determination will get you through 90% of it. |
Side note: I believe that the Navy does have a program that sends you right to BUD/S after boot. So you technically could jump right in (that is... if you can make it through BUD/S) |

I see you havent posted in a while, thats good, just read some of these. yeah, they are giving you a hard time, you asked some sensitive questions, any one asking what my rank is and what i do sends up a little flag in my head saying "why am i getting asked this?" i will prob start altering the truth. and if you want to join and do all the badass stuff, i wish you luck, its not easy at all, you have to have a lot of heart and a iron will to get through. try going to specialoperations.com. they have a lot of good information about all the diffrent units. also know one is not really better then the other they all have there own mission and goal. they cant really be compared to one another. |
i did NOT know that, you learn something new everyday! |

O.K. some indirect advice I got second hand from "long tabbers" I've known for the whippersnapper who wants to go Spec Ops: Get a solid light infantry background first. Caveat, I am NOT Spec Ops! hut You can get your infantry credentials in the U.S. Army or Marine Corps. I'm an Army guy & I'd recomend going Ranger, Airborne, or light infantry & becoming Ranger qualified first, then going out for SF or Delta. R, A, and L.I. all have excellent pre-Ranger programs & people I've known who served as Ranger instructors have told me the units with good pre-Ranger do well in Ranger school. Ranger school is primarily a leadership school, you'll either plan or lead patrols in every phase you attend. If you can take someone else's plan & make it work, you have the proper leadership skills to make it in the combat arms. Do a lot of PT, learn FM 7-8 and the Ranger handbook, and KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT about wanting to be a "Super Secret Nighthawk Commando from Shadow Section, Ghost Platoon." Yak about Spec Ops stuff that you have no BTDT credentials for & folks will think this about you: |
|
| I'm sure any future SF member is watched fairly closely for aspirations unbecoming of the Unit they are attempting to join during the Selection phase, characters like this make themselves obvious to the staff right away, that's why you sign a form saying you will not write a book etc, most of the people you see on TV are no longer active SF, if so, they will not compromise Op Sec. If you are serving with SF I would imagine it's best practice to say you are still a member of your parent Unit & certainly avoid discussing it on the WWW. |
+1 I'd advise growing up a little first. You sound like the A-typical kid who has watched entirely way to many movies and has sensationalized "Spec Ops." |
at least with the army even a mildly retarded poser can fall back on a career in the infantry if their aspirations for movie star glory fall through.
