Anyone on Arifjan recently?  I've been there a couple times, last left AUG '12.  Just wondering how much it's changed in the past 15 months.

They're still mowing the grass & urging soldiers to take combat showers.  Heard a new fast food joint opened up.  The Jewish service still has wine.

How is billeting?

Probably nothing has changed. Unlike jaber where you swear the sand is swallowing everything up.

No, but ask me that again in 6 weeks.   Be there in time for Chris Kringle's parade O'Happiness.

Don't know about Arifjan but Patriot is a ghost town.

Patriot was at shuaiba, right?  Or was it KNB?

Camp Patriot is inside of KNB.

AJ has changed quite a bit. They're taking alot of tents down in District 9. Depending on what unit you're going there with (PCS vice TCS) you'll probably find billeting in the PCBs. If you're PCS you'll probably stay in hard-billets in Zone 1.

Or if you're lucky like me, you stay in the PODs.

Have fun. AJ is WAY better than clown-town Buehring.

ETA: Sorry, we always called Zone 6 'District 9'..

TCS, from my guys I worked with last time, who are now back, it's podville. I'm good with that.  507 was close to the cage, but no roomie will be a bonus. I'm too old to deal with that again.

I'm on Buehring for a little while.  It's a nice break from ship.

I should have invested in glow-belts back in the day.  The Army would have made me a fortune!

Yes, there is a pool.  But that pool puts you awful close to the flagpole...

Well......Its basically an uncontrolled orgy of national guard, permanent party, civilians, and one shitty rotational unit here to guard everything. Guess whose in the rotational unit.

They busted a rave a few weeks ago complete with drugs, sex, and alcohol.  Somehow this place counts as a "combat" deployment so people are getting patched for being here.  Oh, they had a costume party on Halloween.

I miss Afghanistan

A fast food joint?  There are dozens now.  6 just in Zone 6 alone.

That seems to be the sentiment of everyone that's been to both.

Also...avoid the pink PT belts. They're looking for a hookup if you catch my drift. Heard that from a CID Agent.

ROFL.  That's an urban myth.  Some entire units issue those.

I understand your skepticism. But we had a pretty good working relationship with CID and that was from their reports.

*shrug*

YMMV

CID's got to have something to do when they're not seizing water pistols.

I got hit on by an E4 at the PX the other two days ago. My wedding ring and rank plainly visible.  Its just common practice here.  Worse, theres been more than a few instances where a soldier will politely decline an invite and then magically get slapped with a sexual harassment charge.

What's wrong w/ that?  Were we supposed to stop living when we deployed?  Not much going on in Kuwait, you might have noticed.  Only so much time you can spend fingering every item in the PX, only so many movies they show @ the USO...

GO1............ Civies can do what they want, but if your in uniform, no go.  My BDE has to deal with enough SHARP and EO issues as is.

Well, w/ my face, it's a no go anyway, but folks in uniform can date, they don't have to co-habitate.  Besides, that's what the tops of the bunkers @ 0200 are for.

Any thoughts on the KU cell service?  I know my Verizon GS3 won;t work (CDMA), but how is the cell coverage at AJ?  Anyone using the local (Wataniya) mobile internet?  Did you bring your own phone or buy one locally?

Thanks!

Cell coverage seems ok, data is 3G but I think they're rolling out a 4G network in town.  My roommate has the mobile internet but the WiFi is only $40 a month, pretty reliable.  Brought my own AT&T phone that was off contract & got the unlock code for.  Works fine.

There is service.  You can buy a local phone or use one you bring from home, assuming you can afford it.  Supposadly T-Mobile is actually pretty good.  Free data and texting and cheap calls.  AT&T is so expensive I have mine on airplane mode and am switching services when I get back.
