First off, I know these knives really have no place in the sandbox. I would never bring one... However, for a gift, I received one of the new HALOs in the mail.

Here is my question: will I have any special trouble bringing this blade back to the states with me through customs? Or will I have to get "creative" when it is time to redeploy here in a few months?

Thanks all

There are some posts addressing this type of situation...generally you need a memo from the CO stating it's an issued knife to be able to get out of the country. Not worth losing that grade of knife$$$

M4 mag... never thought of that! It would be exceedingly easy with a PMAG, but this will be my first redeployment. Will after market mags such as pmags receive more scrutiny than those that are obviously issue spec?

I re-deployed with a few knives in my "checked" baggage last year with no issues at all.
I also sent home a few Iraqi bayonets via USPS with no issues either. I did have a memo from my CO regarding they werent issue and were personal souvenirs, etc. Check with the  FOB postal unit and they will give you the current guidelines if you opt for the USPS route. Ship it with a bunch of other personnel stuff in a footlocker and you'll be GTG.

As far as trying to hide it, dont do it! The customs guys in Kuwait (everyone goe thru Kuwait for OIF/OEF) are VERY good and will more than likely find whatever you hide, then you're reallly SOL.
