Does it post? Do you hear a "beep" when it starts up?

Check and make sure all memory chips, video card and internal motherboard plugs are firmly seated.
make aure all video cables are fully plugged in, and the monitor power cable is plugged in as well as the video input cable.
Do you get a green or amber light on your monitor?
If amber, the monitor is not seeing any video input. You should at least see the BIOS come up if it is posting.

What type of monitor is it ?

Does it have a power light on it ?  What color is the light ? Does it change color when the computer turn on ?

I have plenty of other questions that might offend you but I will refrain because you may actually know something about computers.

Just go back and double check ALL your connections. It will most likely be something simple that you overlooked.

Monitor is a Westinghouse lcd also tried an old compaq monitor.

Have gone through all connections 4 times now.

Get a blip of sound and no signal message.
Light remains amber on the screen.

Plugged the old computr back in and everything is working as it should.

Is the blip of sound a beep?  Does it come from the monitor or the PC itself?

Is this a new computer with a warranty?  If so, you could void the warranty.

EDIT: Opening a computer can void the warranty depending on the manufacturer's policies.  I can't watch TV and post at the same time...

Not sure what a beep from the monitor means.  If the PC itself doesn't beep, either it doesn't have a speaker or the motherboard isn't starting the POST.  If the machine is not under warranty, you could unplug it, pop it open, and check for anything loose inside.  Make sure that you ground yourself before and while messing with the innards of the PC.  Beyond that, there's not much you can do without swapping in known good parts.

It was from the monitor and was a short blip of sound like a voice.
Will look more into it tomorrow.

Thanks.

Tried it again and all it did was play music after i unplugged the speakers in the monitor.
Nothing came on the monitor still.

Does the machine have a video card or onboard video?  Do you plug the monitor into a connector next to the keyboard and usb ports?
Do you see any blinking from the lights on the case or hear any noise from the hard drive like it is attempting to boot?
Does the music play immediately when you power up or after the machine has been running for more than thirty seconds?

If there is problem with the video output, it is possible that the machine is booting up just fine.  The thing that is throwing me off is the music that you are hearing.  If it is coming from the speakers that are connected to the PC, there is a chance that the machine is working, but the video signal can't get to the monitor.

Your machine may have both onboard video and a seperate one.
Look for another video source and plug it in that one

Monitor plugs into the back of computer.

Hard drive sounds like it boots and gets lights.
Music start after 30 seconds or so from the speaker on the computer.
It should have a video card.

Am looking for the specs of the machine but cannot remember where they are.

I found the manual online.  It specifically says:

If your model has two monitor connections, be sure to use the connector on the graphics adapter.

Hope that helps!

The cord from the monitor only fits one hook up on the puter.
Its the same as the old puter.

From your posts I'd still guess your PC is working but we're not getting video to the monitor.  Could be anything, but...

Any chance you can take a clear picture of the back of the computer and share with us?

exchange it with a new one

Okay looking at my info and help of baby sister plus stumbling on the interweb may have found problem.
It shows display support DMS-59 to VGA-DVI Dongle.
So that means i need a different hookup.

Will try to find the cord then let you all know what happens.

If this works i will feel so dumb.

Thanks for your patience with a puter dummy.
