I have a Dell 11z netbook (11.6" screen, Celeron CPU).  I want to speed it up a bit by switching over to a 40GB Intel SSD, on sale at Newegg for $130.

Question: what is the easiest way to transfer the system to the SSD?

If I shrink the partition on the HDD from 160GB to <40GB, then make a disk image, will I be able to restore that image to the SSD and have it run?

I have heard of people using acronis to do what you want.

acronis understand disk partitions and Microsoft file systems, so it can rearrange your data, etc so it will fix on the smaller drive.

Edit:  it is friday night and i'm posting tech tips.

Above should work.  I used to be sold on Ghost, but symantec has driven it way downhill.  Keep your old disk, just in case.
