So due to a lull in my interest in PC gaming, I ended up giving away my 8800GTS some time ago, and since getting "back in the game" I've been making due with an 8600GT. This wasn't so bad with my old 1280x1024 19" monitor, but I recently got a new 28" 1920x1200 monitor. And then Steam kept having all these sales. And now I have 2 dozen games that I want to play, but I don't want to cheat them by playing them in a non-native resolution with low details (my 8600GT can't even handle Left 4 Dead 2 @ 1920x1200 with all the details turned down.) So I (being a loyal nvidia customer) just purchased a GTX 295. So I sat back and folded my arms and smiled smugly, excited for my card to arrive to smite everything graphical. When all of a sudden, it hit me like a bolt, I have no idea what sort of power supply is in this box. So I take the side off an am dismayed to find an Antec SmartPower 450w.
This is a couple year old computer with: Nvidia 680i Ultra motherboard C2D E4400 4GB PC 3200 1x Seagate 1TB hd And yes, I realize the video card is worth more than the rest of the computer, but I don't feel that processors and memory have come along far enough to warrant upgrading it at this point. So, my question is, does my poor little Antec power supply have any chance in running this beastly new card? Will the fans even spin? It can't hurt to try, right? |
