Here is what I have:
1 desktop running vista (wired to router)
1 desktop running xp (wireless N adapter)
1 laptop running xp (wireless N card built in)
1 laptop running xp (wireless card built in, not sure what type) *** this is my wife's work computer that she brings home most of the time.
1 netgear rangemax wireless N router
1 hp printer
1 500Gb external hard drive

I want to set this all up so that all computers on the network can access the external hard drive and the printer. The printer is connected to the wired desktop via usb cable. Is there a way to access files on one computer from another one on the network, ie. if I'm on the laptop, can I access files on the desktop through the network?
How would I go about setting this up? Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

my suggestion is to add the printer and the external drive to a hardwired computer( that is left on 24-7)  or at least on while the data needs to be accessed.

share the drive out on the workstation,  then map it to the other computers.

The first thing you need to do is set up all user accounts identically on all the computers.  (or at least the one which you are going to share the resources)
Make sure each computer is a member of the same workgroup.
