I've been running Firefox for months with no issues. Lately, though, I've been having more and more trouble loading pages. Sometimes just opening Firefox gets me nothing. Surfing Arfcom has gotten to be a pain...sometimes a thread will open, sometimes it won't.

However, using IE works fine.

Anything I should check?

I've had issues with ARF pages taking a loooong time to load. The double taps from impatience are really upping my post count.

Firefox won't do it with any other site. Are you using FF 3.5?

Yep, 3.5

I first noticed it on ARFCOM, but have since seen other sites/pages not load. Using IE, I have no problems.

The biggest problem I've been having with Firefox is that pics that are posted in threads will not completely load.  Sometime I'll have to refresh 2, 3, or 4 time just to see them in their entirety.
And it just doesn't happen on ARFCOM.  Happens on other sites as well.

On ARFCOM Firefox, chrome, and IE hangs up. I have to refresh the page often to get them to load. This is the only site I have those problems. It pisses me off at times

ETA: I had to refresh twice to post this in chrome.

I run firefox without any issues... ever. I'm not sure what it could be, but I'm more than willing to work with you guys to find out and correct it.

For starters how many plugins and security software do you guys use? AVG? Norton? A lot of that stuff is a pain in the ass and could be causing you load issues.

The basic issue, from what I understand, is that your client calls the page, the page is sent, but never received. (I've checked logs in the past trying to figure this issue out, but nobody technical has ever been involved.) Somewhere between the servers, network, and your client there's a problem. The hard part is finding out what it is. I've looked at gzip of pages, compression levels, servers, network logs, etc to no avail.

Well BG, your explanation sounds good.

Started having these probs the last few days.

Using IE.

Page tries to load, but just sits there spinning - trying to load.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7, IE 8 and the latest Firefox both exhibit the same symptoms...hitting submit or refreshing a page is completely frustrating.  I have to wait a minute or more for a page to refresh and it doesn't do anything.  Happened across XP/Vista/Win7 too across both browser platforms.

EDIT

I had to hit "stop" and "submit" about 5 times for it to even load.

A better way to browse Google Chrome .  I switched about a month ago to Chrome and haven't looked back.  The only thing I wished Chrome had was xMarks other than that I don't miss a thing.  Chrome loads faster and each "tab" is a separate process so if one page hangs and crashes the rest don't go down with it.

Disable any virus scanners you have running. Start Firefox in safe mode (there should be a link to it in the firefox section of your start menu). See if the problem goes away.

If it does go away, leave your virus scanner off and open firefox back up normally. Disable your plugins one at a time and see if it starts working again.

ETA: I had a lot of problems with IE doing this sort of thing until I disabled the AVG web stuff. Never had a problem with firefox, though.

I used to have similar problems all the time.  I tried everything  I could think of to tweak Firefox.

Then..... I uninstalled Zone Alarm.

That cured all my problems.

Now I use Comodo for my firewall.  No issues whatsoever with Firefox.

I'm now having similar issues using IE. Quite often it takes three tries to get a thread to open.

This is the only site I'm having problems with.

Only issues I have with FF is embedded videos. And it's not ALL the time. SOME threads with embedded vids just crash me. Total destruction. Others? No problems. That's the only ARFcom/FF issue I have.

I also get redirected to google from my pop3 and yahoo on occasion: click on a message and blam, I am at google with results for ad.doubleclick.com. (???) I've done everything to stop it, to no avail.

It's the shadow people.
