I'm running Windows XP (SP2) and haven't defragged in ages.  What's recommended to use:  the windows built-in defragger or perhaps some third party alternatives?  I've found some suggestions for JKDefrag (now called MyDefrag) and Auslogics (both free), diskeeper (there's trialware, but I can't find a recent free diskeeper lite that I've seen on another machine) and PerfectDisk (purchase product).

What say ye?

Defragging is not a critical as it as 10 years ago.

NTFS is a far more resilient file system than FAT.

That said, use the built in one and if you still have issues, then ...  i donno.  i never used anything but the builtin one.

I mostly agree, 96-98%, but I paid for Auslogics Boostspeed.

Vista or Vista Pro on 6 machines.  XP on 2 others.

I use Defraggler.  Works really well and free.

I use JKDefrag/MyDefrag and it works very well.  I have it set up to defrag as a screen saver on my home computer.

I use this too.

There are literally tons of them out there.

Go to sourceforge.net and search for defrag.
