[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Notebook vs Laptop

I'm taking online classes and need reliable internet service to complete my education. I will be using a blackboard set up for my classes, email, typical browser and I also use MS Word for word processing my assignments.

Do I need a laptop or a Notebook? I will be traveling for work so I need something that I can pack and go and do my assignments anywhere.

I occassionally have lectures mailed to me via DVDs so It could be handy to have that capability but not totally necessary.

do you mean netbook v laptop?

if you need to watch the occasional dvd. you will have to have a laptop OR carry an external dvd drive with you

okay do I need to get a full laptop or would a less expensive netbook be sufficient for me? I have a portiable DVD player so I don't have to have a DVD player but I do need to be able to access the internet and submit assignments. My assignments are heavy word processing (writing).

my suggestion is to go to a store that sells them. open a word document and start typing away, if you can live with the size of the keyboard, the small screen. i say go for it. otherwise i'd get a fullsize full functional laptop
