| I had heard earlier this year that if you had Windows Ultimate 64 that 7 would be a free upgrade but I don't see anything about it on the Windows 7 page now. Its all upgrades you have to pay for, anybody else hear anything about this? |

Never heard that, beginning the end of last month if you bought a qualifying vista equipped pc or a new copy of vista you can get the free upgrade. |
| I found it: link Kinda. Its if you buy a copy now, they don't address the 64bit versions. |

The 7 discs are suppose to contain both 32 and 64 bit versions on it and you can upgrade to the 64 bit version even if your currently running 32 bit vista. Newegg has better prices then that for the deal by about $20 I think. If you already own Vista Home Premium, or Business versions you can preorder the upgrades for $49 and $99. I already preordered for the HP version, unfortunately they aren't offering preorder deal on Ultimate upgrades. |

Any of the big electronics/computer chain stores should have it too(best buy, microcenter, frys) |

Quoted: Bought mine through amazon. Right now, I am rocking Win7 RC and Ubuntu 9.04, both 64 bit. Gotta say, I like Win7 much more than Vista. Sure, it is mostly GUI, but it runs MUCH better than Vista ever did on my same machine... Bought one of the upgrades for my wife's computer from Amazon. Not enough funds to upgrade hers and mine. I'm taking my chances that I'll fine a decent deal on the full OEM disk through Pricewatch before Windows 7 starts hiccupping in March 2010 I'm running Windows 7 RC 64bit and Mint 7 64bit on my computer. Excellent combination. |

Excellent combination. You might want to cancel the pre-order and wait. There is strong evidence as in part numbers and pricing listed on some web sites that MS intends to release a three licenses Windows 7 upgrade pack in the sub $150 price range. They have been doing this with Office for several years so it makes sense. |

It's her money. She hates Vista and wanted to be sure to get her own copy. At least she didn't buy more nail polish. Assuming the Evil Empire goes ahead with the family plan, I'd buy three license codes for general principle. One for my box. One for an old desktop that has enough horsepower to run W7 and one for a spare. |

I am apt to believe this also, since Google just announced they have an OS in development. Remember, it was MS that re-reextended XP's life so linux would not catch on for netbooks... |

Goggles "new" OS is just another Linux distro dressed up in a Goggle suit. MS has netbooks locked up 94% sold in the last year had XP and that share will only get bigger with Windows 7, Goggle is not going to change that with a another version of Linux no matter how much they hype it. |

Quoted: Too little to late for Google's browser. If Google really wanted to challenge the Evil Empire, they should have done it when Vista came out. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/ZekeMenuar1/bill-gates-borg.gif Yea, Windows 7 is going to close that door Apple and Goggle wasted the opportunity. |
