Make sure you are trying to connect to the right Access Point (AP). In my neighborhood there are several and if they have security enabled you will not get an IP address for your laptop.
Right click on My Network Places Select Properties from the Network Connections Window Right Click on the Wireless Network Connection Select View Wireless Networks This should bring up a list of wireless networks that your laptop can see. Check to see if you're connected to your home network to start. BTW: If you can't get an IP address, how are you posting? |

Is the desktop wireless or wired to the AP? Also, if wireless, do you have WEP enabled or MAC filtering? desktop is wireless it is wep enabled and I can see a MAC address in one of the linksys programs it seems to see the router but can not get online - if that makes any sense |

Check your settinging do an IP config /all and post it Look at DNS, does it match your notebook? notebook is set to auto configure i tried IP config/all but the window just flashed and I couldn't read anything i tried manually setting an IP and DNS on the desktop and it could connect to the router but cannot see beyond it |

does the machine work if its hardwired to the router? does the wireless card work on another computer? just hardwired it and it works can't try the card - I don't have another PC so strange I'm guessing the hardware is OK but there's some sort of configuration trouble. It was working fine this AM and then I had to reboot the machine and I think it gave up the ghost after the boot. The machine acts funny when trying to burn cds & dvds I was attempting to burn a disc and it froze so I used task manager to re-start the system. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. |

When it happens again cycle your router by unplugging it for about 15 seconds. I tried that also. Unplug both modem & router. Wait a minute, plug in modem wait for the lights to all light up and then plug in router. The technogodz hate me today. My HP iCrap won't take a charge. |

I have no clue why but it's working now.
I deleted a ton of stuff from the machine (all linksys software/drivers) and told windoze to go to work. It wasn't working. I did something with Nortons and the icon in the tray indicated that the machine was online. I can't believe it. I'm happy it's working but I have no clue why. |

I have them but haven't used any lately. As long as it's online I'm pretty happy. I don't need to know they why or how. I have a Linksys N band too, and if my network craps the bed 99% of the time that's the common factor. Cycling the router's power "takes care" of it though. |
