My buddy has a Dell XPS M170.  He is getting the fated Blue Screen Of Death all the time.  I pointed him to Dell's driver download site and he updated the video drivers (and the rest of the system drivers) only to get the error message that says "problem reading/writing to video card."

Any ideas?  I guess he has tried to run it in safe mode too and he said he gets a graphically challenged version of the BSOD.

Any good help is appreciated!

Back up all the files to an external drive and reload windows into it. its a pain in the ass but one of the only surefire ways to get whatever is wrong with it out.  I hate dells because shit like this happens all the time to them. unfortunately its what my school gives us to use so i just have to deal with it

If he's technically minded he could try re-seating the graphics card - it's removable on the M170.
